Boys, sorry I haven't been posting much lately. My wife was diagnosed with cancer and it has weighted heavily on us both. Treatment has been in effect for the last few months now. My wife has the hard job. Carrying the burden of the physical discomfort and uncertainty for her own future is her task alone. Watching it all happen and being able to do little more than to just be there and worry a lot is mine. In addition to that, I lost my Grandpa and we were pretty close. He survived 96 years, the Po Valley, Anzio and Monte Casino.
I should have said something about this sooner but I just didn't want to. Please keep us in your hopes and prayers. I'm now in the mood to write some articles as an outlet so you should see more from me soon. However, if I seem a bit off with my replies, it's not you; I just haven't been myself lately.
Thanks everyone.

My thoughts are with you and your wife. I was in y'all's shoes 3 years ago. I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer with a brain tumor to boot. I have been cancer free for 2 years now. With a good doctor, and lots of hope, you do have a chance.

We will keep you in our prayers.

Will keep Y'all in my prayers , Brother Dave. Being there for your wife is what is needed . Sorry for your loss , Grandfathers are special ! Stay strong . ,,DT

Gentlemen, thank you all for the very kind words. They mean a lot and they go far. I'd like to get back into the proverbial saddle have a few articles I'd like to start adding.
It is my pleasure to share this hobby with such a good lot.
Thanks

Looking forward to more articles, I need to be more active myself.

Gentlemen, thank you very much for the kind words. It really means a lot to me and I'm sorry I did not say that sooner. After 16 rounds of chemotherapy and a tough surgery this morning, I received great news that the cancer was detained and mostly killed by the treatment.
The surgery removed the small core of cancerous cells still living after treatment and any affected material including the now dead cells. In plain words, my wife may require more regular checkups over the years but her odds of seeing a ripe old age are just about as good as anyone else's.
The next step at hand is a long recovery period. She made it through but got beat up bad in the process.
Thanks again for the warm wishes.

Thanks everyone. Although draining wounds and changing dressings is a far cry from the outdoor stuff, I have grown up a lot through these last few months. I found a lot of personal attributes about myself that came up lacking. The three things I have learned so far are...
1. Be thankful when you discover your personal failures and shortcomings; it's nothing but solid opportunities to improve yourself.
2. I hope that I am never again so stupid as to think that I cannot improve any further on anything. I found so much about me I still have to fix. I hope to remain vigorously in the act of self improvement never accepting what I do as the best I can do right up to my last breath.
3. I did not know what love was. I knew what a beautiful woman who is a great life partner and friend is; but I did not know what love is until going through this.
I am blessed with a wonderful woman and I have just gotten started trying to be a good man to her.
Your kind words mean more than you know. Thank you all for the encouragement.

Caring for the person you love is truly one of the most, if not the most, significant crucible anyone will ever be placed in. Dave, you came through it with your wife and are stronger for it. Congratulations on the news and good luck with everything as you move forward. You need a hand, there are many of us here, just let us know.

This is great news, and we'll keep both of you in our prayers.

Thank you everyone. A few have shown concern about the fires out here. Since I live in Anaheim Hills, my home was directly in the path of the canyon fire. I had to take a fire road to enter the back end of my neighborhood but was able to get my wife, guns, and most of my really important artifacts out just as the house started filling with smoke.
The hill on which my house stands did burn but the hard work of OCFA Station 9 saved my neighborhood. The fire line came to within 50 feet of my house and was stopped. I hiked back 4 miles to see if I still had a house and got to meet and thank these guys. Two days later, the last hot spots on my hill were cold and we had a home to return to.
All these things in life build character and I am truly grateful for what I have.

My Dear Dave -
Good news about your home, and better news about your wife's continuing recovery.
If you Remind me I will send some articles about improvements that can make a home "fire-resistant".

Dang, Dave, I have been away, and you have had a very hard, steep trail. Looks like you have made it to flat ground, with the good Lord's help. Hope your wife is in remission or cured.
