Here is what I ended up with!
Deuce Stevens recommendation of Sunshine Orange, and then I added Golden Yellow Rit fabric dye, 2 cups hot water and a cup of distilled vinegar, heat to simmer not allowing to boil stirring constantly for 15 minutes. Rinse and dry. The second Schofield is at the leather guy making holsters, so just having the other set of grips ready when it comes back!

Originals looked exactly like the 'before' photos, and both time, use and sunlight would mellow them further.

I liked them much better before you dyed them. They look more like wood than ivory now. It's what you like that matters though.

The before picture was gungrip.com stock photo! The actual ones were so white you would need sunglasses! I agree they could have turned out a bit lighter, but I can deal with these! In person, they look real old, not like wood!

But they wouldn't have been real old - not during the time they'd've been in use.
The revolver and the grips would only have been a couple of years old, with the blue still bright and the grips still clean.
Artificially aging something to look like it was found today, in order for it to be used in yesterday's scenario just never made any sense.
'Buffalo Brothers' has/had a grip line that was of the same coloration - even included fake, molded-in age cracking - they never sold many sets.
You'll do what you like, I'm sure, but I'd try to salvage their look by using a Q-Tip and straight Clorox on the smooth parts until I got to 'Light Butter' in color - rinsing continually - the dark part can stay in the crevices.

I very much agree. Overall the color seems too "evenly" dark even for Ivory that could be thousands of years old.
I have worked with both new and old ivory.
I don't know if straight Clorox is the way to go. However, "Rit" dye remover maybe better and work well on deducing the darkness of the overall coloring on a Rit dye product?
Just a suggestion on my part.

Ok, I get it! I am not a reenactor! I'm a SASS shooter! I do not try to be authentic anymore then basic. My favorite costume is my version of Indian wars Calvary, however I am not going to wear a wool outfit on a hundred degree day to have some fun. I wear my rank stripes directly on my cotton bibb shirt. Red artilory strips with a yellow rope on my hat and two six guns on each side butt backwards and shotgun ammo on the face of the belt!
I'm not wanting to sound like a ass, but sorry!
Heck, I probably won't even shoot my Schofields much since I prefer my Ruger SASS New Vaquero's better! But who knows? Who really cares? It's a pass time not a life! I'm having fun, and that's how I'm going to roll!
