It started out bad , I'm deep stuff ::)

I let the Dogs out in the chain linked fenced back, to do their "stuff".
There is the pre-revelers, fireworks pops & bangs, the little shih Tzu panics and squeezes under the gate.... now lost.
I hunted till dark... Friends helped , Animal Control (another friend that knows the dog works there ) is alerted.

1st. light I'll be out looking , it's "HER" dog.....

Our dog went nuts when the fireworks started here, too.  Just about put my brother on the ground with her leash.

Morning all.

Heading to the city for church in a while, hoping the white stuff doesn't keep us down there.  We're forecast for " 1 - 14"  in the next 24 hours."  Thanks for the heads up...

As I was cooking breakfast this morning, the dead coffee pot was plugged in, but because it's dead, not on.  I'm stirring my oatmeal, when I hear a click, look behind me, and the darn thing is brewing a pot of coffee. :o  Ghost coffee.

lost dog, ghost coffee.

I hope it gets better for you all!

look on the bright side, the vikings used to have to catch a wild boar, bring it into the hall, and while drunk
put their hand on it's head and make New Year Vows.

If the boar believed in your sincerity, you got your hand back.

Off the next two days, there is an odor in my kitchen I need to check out, kinda like someone mixed stalebeer with sour milk.  Think the sourdough starter is ready to use, thinking pumpernickel for the first batch.  Takes about 24 hours to rise the right way using all rye flour and just he sourdough for yeast, worth the wait.

Sounds good, Del.   ;D  My starter survived my grandmother's refrigerator cleaning, so I might have to pull it out and make something with it.

The white stuff has been falling since about 1700, but it's been too warm to stick.

Had the day off from work, so I've been doing things around the house.  Rearranging the front room, washing dishes etc..

Spent some time doing car repairs, put a new front wheel bearing on the Blazer, still needs a ball joint and upper control arm bushings. I have the tools and know how for that, but not the time, so it's scheduled for a trip to the shop next week. At least I won't have to listen to the left front wheel howling on the route tomorrow. Did a little shooting before it got too dark, still learning the "art of the LCP". It's good for elevation, but if I pull the trigger like I do with the 1911, that is with just the tip of my trigger finger on the trigger, it pulls most of my shots to the right. Seems like if I pull the trigger with the finger in the trigger guard up to the first joint, then it's centered better. If I shot the .45 like that, I'd pull all my shots a foot low and left. Plus when shooting with the finger tip, the rather snappy recoil bangs the trigger guard into the finger pretty hard.

Finally got back from our month+ long road trip.  Went to Oregon (for Thanksgiving), then cross county (with several stops in route) to Milwaukee (for Christmas), then back though the southern passes to Vegas  (for New Year’s Eve) and then back home late yesterday.  Good thing we planned the southern route coming home, as I saw the weather wasn’t the best in the states we went through going out.

Woke up this morning to a light coating of sn*w.  Let the cats out, but they didn’t go very far before realizing they didn’t really like the frozen white stuff on the patio.  Supposed the get another 3-5” tonight and tomorrow.

Beating a large pile of clothes on rocks right now.  It’s good to be back home and plan on just laxin’ out for the next couple days.

Happy New Year to everyone!

Morning all.  I'll run the hot water through the beans.  ::)

Had a front come in last night, now there's about 4 inches of white stuff on the ground.  THe emergency crews have been going like the energizer bunny.  Apparently, there are still a bunch of people up here who haven't figured out the whole "70 mph isn't a good idea on icy roads" bit.

Got back into working out yesterday after a break over Christmas.  New workout routine, that works different parts of the body different ways than the last.  Today, I'm not sure how I'm going to bend over to clean the toilets.   :o

Pumpernickel, 100% rye flour, using only sourdough to raise it.  The acids in the sourdough convert some of the rye starch to a different form allowing a good rise despite the low gluten content of the rye flour.

Morning all.

Today's forecast: doom and destruction, or something like that.  Supposed to warm up to 35-40, and rain for the next week.  People are losing their minds.  Couldn't say why, though.  We always get a week or two of rain in winter, it just comes with the territory.

Finishing breakfast right now, then going to go "grind some nose on the stone," to quote my uncle.

Yesterday I had to go to the city.  Why do crazy people have to congregate at Costco?

Ended up with about 3 ½  inches of  stiff with stuff yesterday morning.  All set to get out the stiff white stuff blower, only discover after 3 years of no use, it wouldn’t start!  Luckily it wasn’t getting about freezing, so it stayed light and fluffy and easy to shovel.

The streets weren’t in too good a shape, so we postponed the birthday diner until tonight.

More snow tomorrow, turning to rain on Sunday.  The Truckee River is looking at possible flooding in downtown Reno.

Just more cold here today. had to clear all the walks around the barn this morning. Stuff wasn't wet, so it basically pushed off. Finished touching up the sand paint on the floor of the restrooms from the replacement of the johns(3).

Had a Stouffer's lasagna tonight for dinner, along with some three cheese Texas toast. Not bad for store bought ::)

I've been to Reno 9 times, and 8 of them were raining.   ::)  I'll be going again in March, then moving there in August/September (Lord willing and the Truckee don't rise too much) .  Hopefully it doesn't rain the whole time I'm there. :P

Today's forecast turned out wrong.  It stayed around 33 and mildly overcast/sunny.  Just warm enough to melt a little ice and make it all slippery.  No rain yet,  but we'll see tomorrow.

Coffee and water are hot!

No sn*w yet, but still predicting 1-3”.  Rain is supposed to be 2.75” on Sunday, then back to the white stuff on Monday for another 3-5”.

Made it out to dinner last night, and the main roads were clear and dry, but the side streets are still packed down and a bit slick.

Kid, you should have come over more often, we could have used more rain over the last couple years.  It looks like this one set of storms could pull us out of our three year drought.

Morning/afternoon all.

That big scary rain storm never materialized.  Instead we ended up with an inch of white stuff...and a bunch of people in the ditch.

Russ, maybe we should switch places.  I'll solve your drought if you solve mine.  My part of California has been in a pretty decent drought for ten years.  :o  Our lake hasn't been past 60% full since 2006-7, which is interesting because it's second or third largest reservoir in the state.

When I moved here in ’92 you could walk across the Truckee on the large rocks in the river bed, and not get your feet wet.  New Years 1997, I was filling sand bags and trying to keep the water out of the Nevada Bell cable vaults on 1st street downtown (that’s one block from the river).  The water was up to top of the parking meters outside the building.  Then nothing but below normal precip. until 2005 (luckily I was retired by the, so no sand bagging).  Again no major precip. until now.  This one is expected to possibly be worse than 1955 (the flood of floods around here).  They have already closed the Washoe County schools for Monday.  We shall see!  Still no sn*w, and very little rain.

Supposed to get above freezing here today. Maybe our high will exceed M2s low temp. Probably won't get rid of all traces of the E.W.S., though.

TK, around here, everyone except Wally World has .22s, if you want to pay $5+- for 50. I stopped by the relatively new Dick's Sporting Goods while I was wandering around town, they had 325 count boxes of Federals for about $29, but that's still higher than the gun show. They had a shelf full of .380, too, but for about $5-6 more than the 16.99 I paid at the show.

Morning all.

It's around 35 outside, and enough rain to fill all of the creeks with muddy water.  White stuff at around 6500 feet.

Spent most of my evening doing "Employee awareness training."  It was all online and video stuff that took two hours to get through.  It's like the producers of these things expect a kindergarten class to be learning about Integrated Pest Management, HIV and Sexual Harassment.

"Here we have a mouse.  Do you know what is bad about mice inside a school?"
Seriously?

The saddest part is, I had to sign a waiver before starting to certify that I was an adult and that the county isn't responsible for any "emotional stresses" I might develop from watching about quid pro quo harassment.  :-\  But I made almost $30 from the training, so I have that going for me.

Sourdough sinner-mon rolls in the oven, the new starter is vicious.  Not a lot slower working than regular yeast.  Started about 2 made shatter, let it work, made a sponge and let it work, made dough and let it work, formed them and that rise took just over an hour.

The coffee and hot water are on the fire.

Rained all day Sunday and most of Monday.  Never did get the second batch of white stuff on Monday.  Did wake to a partially downed fence yesterday morning.  The wind had pushed to top part over into our backyard.  The wind was still blowing pretty good while we pushed it back upright and I added about 20 ft. of additional header to bring it all back together.  Good thing Home Depot opens early.

Back to more rain today.  The Truckee crested yesterday at about 12 ft. (that’s about a foot lower than the 2005 flood.)

Had a little snow over night, and then the freezing rain started. Had to put salt out to be able to take the dogs out. managed to slip and fall once while we were repairing a faulty heat tape on the "sow's ear". Probably feel it tomorrow morning.i was going back and forth getting tools for my associate and picked the wrong place to step. It's just rain now, temp's up to around 40 ::) :P

Had a mostly sunny day, 50's here Supposed to be same tomorrow, maybe even warmer. Then only 40 on Thursday, then probably the bottom drops out.

This evening we officially have a four year old in the house. Had to stop and pick up a cake and ice cream, and a big toy kitchen set-probably won't stop her from emptying the kitchen drawers of real utensils, though.

Evening all.  Beans warming for the night crew.   ::)

Rained all day here.  Washed a couple big rocks across one of the highways that are going to need explosives to remove.  should be interesting to watch if I can make my way over there.  Planned for Thursday, but it's a long day for me at work, so we'll see.   ::)

Got half of the suspension in my truck replaced tonight.  Do the other half at some time in the future.

Got about a half inch of white stuff overnight, but the temp. is still slightly above freezing, so it'll hopefully be gone before we cool off tonight.

We managed to get a little over 50 today. Raining now :P

Some place outside the park last night, there was an electrical problem. Power went out here for a few minutes, then came back on. Noticed that the east side of our street didn't, plus the new section was out. Of course, it affected the well pumps, no water. AEP had to kill the power over all to fix the outage, result.......we had to distribute boil alert papers to all the sections of the park that were on the wells which is most of the park :-\ ::)

Morning all.  Here's the coffee.

Weather is about 33.5: it wants to freeze, but not quite there yet.  Forecast for rain later on, which could transform into white stuff.  Brief aside: Mount Shasta, which is about three hours away by highway, has gotten 18 FEET of snow in the past five days.   :o :o  the mountain behind my house got 4"/hour for five hours, with a 60mph wind.  Meanwhile, I stayed in the valley and drank warm liquids.

Have the "keys to the kingdom" today.  Supervisor has to take his horses to a vet visit in the city, so I'll be all alone at the office.  My goal of cleaning all of the wooden cabinets in the building this week went out the window yesterday.  Had to clean out an outbuilding that a ground squirrel had eaten his way into (and then promptly got trapped/killed by a rat trap), which took 45 minutes of my 2 hour day.

Morning all.  I could use some of that coffee.

It was a pretty clear night last night.  I think it got down to 15.  Supposed to get some precipitation later in the day, though not until after the temperature gets above freezing.

We've had enough rain that in the next county they have the dam letting 56,000 CFS through.  That's 1.125 cubic acres/ second.  :o Compared to our dam which is running high at 6,000CFS.

Still waiting on that Ruger I mentioned earlier.  The gun I'm selling to pay for it hasn't gone through yet, so it's still in limbo.

Coffee, tea and hot chocolate are steaming!

Yesterday was sloppy as the 2” of white stuff we got the night before, converted itself into liquid form.  Our ski areas report over 105” of skiing material was dumped on them in the last 5 days.  With what they had before they expect to be open until the end of Spring.

Today more stuff should get converted to goop as we are supposed to be floating just a few degrees above freezing.

Greetings good people of the internet.

We've had almost 3 inches of rain since 8am yesterday here, along with about 2 inches of white stuff.  More on the way, too.

Last night I managed to make a half-way decent beef stew and sourdough biscuits for dinner.  Considering I was missing about half the ingredients I needed for stew (carrots, onions, celery, beans, etc), I think it came out okay.  The biscuits were good, too.  Very buttery, but that's not a bad thing. ::)

Morning all.

Temperature is around 33, with mixed rain/sleet/white stuff coming down.  According to our new weather station, we've broken the three inch of precipitation barrier.  The way some people act when we get some white stuff is ridiculous.  I spent nearly 15 minutes trying to get across town, a total of 2 miles with one stop sign,  because the car in front of me wouldn't go faster than 5-8 mph.  Being cautious is one thing.  Becoming a traffic hazard because of 1/2" of slush is another. :-\

In other news, I'm trying to find where to watch the inauguration.  We haven't had television since... 2007 I think.  For the last one we just went to Round Table and watched it there while eating an early lunch.   :P  This year, we'll see

Good afternoon, just stopping for a short visit, think I'll pass on the coffee, though.  It's raining or drizzling from time to time the past two days here in the great southwestern desert, enough to keep the streets wet and the eaves dripping - not too good for outdoor activities that are not of an urgent nature.    I am eternally glad that I don't have to put up with that nasty white stuff any longer, except for an occasional unusual event; at 2,500 ft elevation, we are some below the normal snow line in these parts, and even a freeze is rather uncommon in this valley.

Well, it is just about my nap time, so I think I'll wander that direction.

Later.

That's the hope.   ::)

Morning all.

No water falling from the sky yet.  Supposed to get 1/2 inch of rain, or up to 3 inches of the "other stuff."

I think I'm coming down with something, which is an inconvenience.  I haven't worked long enough to get a day off, either.

After waiting all day yesterday for stiff stuff from the sky, it finally started coming down around 1900.  Woke up to about 8” on the ground.  Going to get to try the repaired snow blower in a little while.  Thought I’d be nice and let the neighbors sleep in.  as the temp is going to be right about freezing for the next few days, I doubt the white blanet out there is going anywhere soon,

Didn’t see any coffee or water on, so I’ll get it going.  I’ll probably go for some hot chocolate when I get back in.  May lay a fire in the fireplace for later this afternoon, just to get things toasty in here.

Sunny and high in the upper 60's.
Fought the "crud" all week and this weekend.  It is still lingering, but I'll knock it in the head eventually.

I'm feeling better today, though my sinuses are definitely plugged.  That's okay, I guess.  I wasn't planning on any flights/mountain ascents. ::)

The magicians at NOAA are calling for a half inch of rain today, high of 45 with wind up to 10mph.

Sounds like a good time to stay indoors, Slim.

Our weather guessers weren't too far off today.  high of around 55 when the sun decided to peek around the clouds.  WInd gusted to around 10, and a bit of rain.  I took my 223 and went up to a clearing on the mountain with some coyote calls and tried my luck.  While I was up there, it started dumping white stuff on me with a vengeance.  I high-tailed it down to lower elevations, built a fire and ate lunch in a little shelter thing I built last month.   Not a bad excursion.

We were in the 40's today with some drizzle. Since I've been fighting the "Green apple quick step" for the last four weeks, I found out today how weak it's made me while helping my associate cut up several downed trees. Wiped me out pretty bad. Good thing he got called away during our lunch break, I didn't have to answer the bell for this afternoon. just sat the rest of the afternoon, but am feeling better now. I believe I've now got things solidified at least for now. ::) :P

Morning all.

Weather is 34, with a 1mph wind (if you can call one mile per hour a 'wind' )from the south.  The weather service has changed their minds four times in the past hour as to what today is going to bring, so I'm just going to stay inside, I think. ::)

For some reason, I ended up not sleeping much last night.  Kept waking up, so I'm going to the coffee pot for seconds.

Had light rain to start this morning. We finished getting the one pine tree we cut yesterday hauled out. Moved the axles that were on the two new homes that came in in the last couple weeks. Those things are heavy and awquard to handle. Having muddy lots didn't make it any easier too ::) :-\

Still floating just above freezing here, so the white stuff isn't going away very fast.  At least we haven't got anything new.

Got a new toy (a tablet computer), so I've been futzin' with it for last couple days.  Almost got it setup the way I want it.  Just a little more tweaking to do.

Forecast is mostly sunny after the fog burns off, high of 60. :o  I will say, I'm ready for some sun after three straight weeks of rain.

Heading off to the gun show today.   Hope to find a 257 Roberts AI, or maybe another Winchester '94.  Not that I have money...  ::)

In other news, I think I'm going to have to replace either my front fuel pump or my transmission...  The noise was coming from around there, But I don't have time to diagnose it today.  We'll see.

Morning all.

Thanks for the wake-up juice Russ.  ::)

There is a definite reason I don't bring money to gun shows.  Reasons like an original Starr DA for $800, and original Sharps .54 for $1000.  Or a pre-war Winchester M70 in .257 Roberts AI for $950.  All I brought was  $1.50, so I entered a drawing for a Henry 22.  ::)

Whatever has been going around is finally catching up to me.  I woke up this morning unable to say anything.  Cup and a half of coffee later, and I can at least rasp now.

Got the "Keys to the Kingdom" today.  Boss has to run to the city to pick up a car from the shop (the one car in the entire fleet that is reliable and has 4x4... Had the t-case do an impression of Hiroshima.  One of the gears literally exploded and dented the sides of the unit. :o ), So I've got the office to myself.  Then I get to walk a mile home.
In the rain.
Uphill.
Barefoot.
In the snow.
While running from dinosaurs.

Nevermind, that last part was my dad as a kid.  :P :o

Had something weird happen at work tonight, glad it didn't happen about midnite last night.  Was alone, no one in the store, no one in the lot, caught a movement outside as a car came up to the pump, looked and it was a very nice white Ford Pinto station wagon, paid with a card, and left, had Bi-Centennial plates on it (Antiques can use the year of plate)  Glad he paid outside, don't want no ghost in the store, had to be a ghost, I thought all the Pintos were dead and gone.    ;D

Morning all.

It's been a while, Tom.  Good to see you back. :)

It's official: I've been creamed by a virus.  I've been fighting it, but I finally lost.  Fever of 101, no voice, no balance, and no lack of mucous.  Also, no sick days. :-[   I worked fifteen minutes extra yesterday, so I think I'm going to call it a day fifteen minutes early today.  That will have me leaving before anyone else gets into the office, so I don't spread it.

Though, today is payday.  Not that I made that much, but still. ::)
