Beautiful morning on the Coastal Plain....mid 40's this morning, crisp and sunshine!
Not so for the weekend.
Slim, are you helping recount for Stein ignoring that "there was a clear and convincing evidence of fraud or other problems"? Gee....I had a birthday in October...I want a recount...

Good Dec. to all of yous. Finally got some rain here, which also helped the fires in Gatlinburg to our north. With 4 confirmed tornados the night before last, to our west. Just some wind damage and nearly 3 &1/2" of moisture.
Congrats Major on the Gran pa pa thing. :)
Life is good! Ya'll have a joyus Christmas

Congrats, Major.

Congratulations,Major ;)
Stayed in the upper 30's-low 40's today. damp, chilly and breezy. Was cold woking out there, we ended up taking a few warm-up breaks ::)
-
Night pot on the fire.'
Congrats on the grandpa-ification Major. ::)
Bright and sunny in my part of the world today. High of 45, expected to hit 25 tonight. It's already 30 at 10pm.
In other news, it looks like I might be trading a thunder-stick for a new one. My little AR-15 for a Remington 700 in 264 Win Mag. :o

Pretty name, Major, congratulations. First one? I balked like a startled mule when our first one was born, couldn't get my head around the grandpa thing; now, six more later, I'm just "Grampaw!!!!!"
Been relatively cool (read: cold)here, sometimes cloudy, sometimes sunny, windy most of the time lately.
Happy December, Y'all.
Later.

Congratulations, Grandpa Major EAS! For me "Grandpa status" is still a few years away, I only hear that when out somewhere with my girls, where nobody knows us. I guess A dad of a 3 and 7 year old isn'tsupposedtobe all geay haired....

Morning y'all.

congrats Major :)

Rain expected starting tonight. Both matches I'd considered going to have been canceled due to weather concerns. Looks like a good weekend for an indoor project...beaded rifle sleeve...maybe just get started on it!
-
Afternoon all.
More sunny weather today. It's about 55 outside right now. But, all the animal waterers were frozen when I went out to make the morning rounds of the animals. The birdbath is still frozen ::)
Planning a camping excursion with a friend for Monday and Tuesday. He's got this crazy idea that it will be fun to get above the "white stuff" level, toss a tarp over a limb, and let the white stuff cover the tarp while he sleeps underneath in a sleeping bag rated to 40 degrees. I will be making an igloo and using a sleeping bag rated below 0. ::)

Hanging around the upper 30's,low 40's here. Cloudy all day. We got the blowers all serviced. Found that the new one takes a somewhat different size air filter from the ones we used in the old ones. Asst. manager did some checking with our supplier, found out that the exact replacement from the blower manufacturer costs $50 a piece! We use one every month. We're going to get measurements off the old one and see if we can't find an after market that's cheaper. :o ::)

Good Morning all. I have the warmed beverages and donuts. ;D
Weather here is hanging around the upper thirties this morning. Dipped to 20 last night. Clouds hanging around above a layer of fog.
We butchered that turkey yesterday. She was about 40lbs before we started the processing. All said and done, she dressed to about 35 pounds. Each breast tipped the scale at 6 pounds :o
Then for the fun. We had someone attempt to enter our house at 1am. My sister was up watching a movie, and I was reading a book, when the dog started barking. She's a 60 pound Labrador: not exactly a yap-yap sound. Then the front door knob turned and the door rattled. We keep the deadbolt thrown, but that keeps the knob from latching, so we have a sort of early warning system.
I grabbed my Beretta and a flashlight, and my dad and I "walked the perimeter." Didn't find any people, though there was a clear footprint in the drieway. A deputy picked someone up for burglarizing a car about twenty minutes down the road: coincidence perhaps, but I don't think so.

Changed the expansion tank on my hydronic system today, because it was waterlogged. Now I am bleeding the system. I've been at it for over 4 hours. ::)
Slim
-
Morning y'all.
Coffee is hot.
Stayed up 'til 02:00 bleeding it. The house is almost up to normal temp.
'Tis 29 and sn*wing. "Light snow. Additional snow accumulation around 3 inches. Nearly steady temperature in the lower 30s. South wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow near 100 percent."

Maybe if they recount all the states, then he can win the popular vote, too.....
Cool cloudy and damp right now. Tired now, was our churches holiday dinner today, church bought 3 turkeys, 2 whole hams and 3 spiral cut ones. I brought one whole one home to cook, started it at 4AM, cooked till 9:30. Also cooked a couple quarts of green beans and a pan of candied sweet taters, had to cook that in the gas grill. Wife made a couple of Philippine dishes. Feel like a nap. Kitchen looks like a tornado hit it. Maybe the nap comes first...
-
Three hours for a nap-no kitchen elves came to clean up as we slept. two hours of cleaning by both of us-done. In addition to the church feast, Wife went to a party with the local Philippine crowd Saturday, then joined me at another party in the evening. Cooking was involved for al three, hence the kitchen apocalypse. Have to go to w**k tomorrow just to get some rest.

Fun and games tonight about 5 pm, lady filled her car, came back in after paying in a panic and said gas was leaking out of her car. Looked out, yep a puddle about 3 foot around. Got to push the big red button, called dispatch they sent a big red truck. Co-worker got on the line with the HELP line in Kansas, then called the boss.
I put on the nice bright green vest and grabbed the fire extinguisher and shooed people away, FD got there, told them it was their's now, went in and helped Gail wait on people. Filler neck was the problem, it quit, she got the ok to move it, FD left, Gail got back on the phone, with Kansas, they got us back on-line, she took kittly litter out, cleaned up the mess and between us we kept the line inside moving.
-
Afternoon good people of the internet.
Spent the night out in the woods. It got down to 20 degrees, with 20 mph winds and eventual sn*w, to about 1/2 inch accumulation.
I'm almost thawed out after three cups of coffee, some oatmeal and a nap.

-
Rained all day here, temps stayed in upper 30's early 40's. Only got a couple hours in today. For some reason I'm chilling tonight, can't seem to get warm.
Del, that problem could've led to a real hot, possibly explosive time! Glad it got resolved safely :o ::)
-
So tonight there was water shooting out of the island up the street, called dispatch again, someone came and fixed it,no idea who. ::)

Evening all. Got water on the fire, and beans cookin'. ::)
Had a job interview this morning. Went in, the interview was over in 15 minutes and I figured that with it so short, I wasn't going to get it. Went to the local gun store, chatted a while, then came home. I had just sat down to lunch when I got a call to inform me that I got the job. :o
Went back down to the place, filled out a bunch of paperwork, got fingerprinted etc. Tomorrow I'm going to the city for a pre-employment physical and a drug screening. Then I should start work on the 19th. Not a bad gig.
Walking back from the sheriff's dept. where I got my fingerprints taken, and it started to drop the white stuff on me. When I was walking home, it started really coming down. Now we have almost two inches.

Had an appointment with which doctor yesterday...
Yep, I spelled that correctly "which doctor " ::)
routine prescription look see ...never see the same Doc or PA or seldom the same nurse twice...
Dr. Link owns the practice , that has two location for " my " convenience as it were :-\
Yeah, the missing link have yet to see her ever !
this time it was Dr. Duncan (PA ) , never seen her before , some guy (PA) before that... Dr. Sarah Lemaster before that, a year ago.
Back in the days, I had Dr. Nystrum and had some rapport.
I have found where Dr. Nystrum has joined another (partnered) practice and I will reacquaint myself ( my Wife already has ) to that location.
I'm over, seeing a new yahoo every 6 months , and answer the same questions , the same ones they have on my chart ! time & time again.
-
Could be worse, Major. It could have been a colonoscopy appointment. :o ::)
Morning all. We have about 5 inches of the white stuff on the ground. Loosely translated, that means, "Quick! Everyone drive into the ditch!" Didn't get called for any Search and Rescue operations, but considering the cold I'm not upset about that. ::)
Leaving for the city at 9:30 for doctor stuff. The whole "turn your head and cough" deal.
Slim, it's entry level at the county Office of Education. Technically "Custodian I." $14.76/hour, working 8 hours a week. Not a bad set up, though I question why it's 76 cents versus 75.

Good Day all.
The white stuff has mostly melted away in this part of the world. Now we can start pulling more city slickers out of the ditches ::)
Had an interesting occurrence yesterday. Apparently a propane delivery driver didn't shut off the valve on the truck all the way, so he drove through town spewing liquid propane around. Fortunately, nobody behind him tried to light a smoke. :o
Now off to sign more paperwork.
--TK
-
Didn't stay liquid long. ;D
Radio said it was 0 this morning.
-
We was in the low 20's this morning with about a half inch of the evil white stuff. took a broom to the drive, then went out early with my associate and proceeded to spread 35 80lb. bags of salt on the streets of this manufactured housing community. We have some fairly steep hills here and it don't take much for folks to get to slippy-sliding on them if they're not careful( imagine that!) ::) :o :-\
Oh, yeah, happy Birthday a day late you grumpy old cosie! ;D

Night pot on the coals.
Had a trip to the city today for church. It was cloudy both places. :-\
I just got home from the annual Christmas concert, though this time I was in the audience instead of the stage. It's definitely a different experience.
2" of white stuff forecast for tonight, though they say it'll be gone by noon. Saves me the shoveling. ::)

I'll put another log on the fire and toss the water on a pot. Breakfast is oat granola stuff, heated up with milk. Normally, I'd call it oatmeal with raisins, but since i paid more money for it, I might as well call it something else. ::)
Today is my last day of non-working status. Tomorrow at 6:30 am, I begin life as a janitor, starting with mopping the bathrooms. ::) At least I have good hours. 6:30-8am, M-F.
We're under a floor warning right now. It's supposed to start raining around noon today, and not quit until Saturday. SOme places are forecast for up to 9" of rain and 24 " of white stuff.

Lunch was better. Homemade Bread and elderberry jelly. The bread was NOT gluten free, sugar free or vegan. The Elderberries were harvested from the wilds of the Trinity Alps, on a trip that also produced a squirrel stew that was shot with lead shot. ::)

MMmmmMMM...squirrel stew! The last time I can remember having squirrel was in 1985...it was squirrel, dumplings (made from biscuit dough) and #7-1/2 shot! ;D

Morning y'all.
Coffee is hot.
Picked up the new house boiler last night. Reading the install manual to figure out what parts I need.
'Tis 1 and moony. "Blustery. Partly cloudy. Some blowing and drifting snow. Highs around 10 above zero. West wind 15 to 25 mph. Wind chills to 15 below zero."

I find it sad that you have to delineate between above and below zero. ::)
Morning all.
First day at the new job. It's so special I even get a ride to work. ::) Don't get one tomorrow, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there. I have to wait until January before I can resume transporting myself vehicularly, since that is when I get my first check and can afford to fix my truck. Power steering went out.
It has rained non-stop since 3 o'clock ish yesterday, and doesn't shot any signs of stopping.
--TK
-
We actually had some sun here. Didn't help the temps any, though. Had to shovel all the wake around the barn /club house this morning, about froze my tookis off ::) :o
-
Coffee's on. I'll even toss in a couple of eggs, too. They just came out of the chicken yesterday.
Headed to work in an hour. Today I get to mop half the building. Ought to be interesting.
Weather is holding a steady rain. GOt a little white stuff in the hills up high last night, but nothing to worry me too much. The creeks are all pretty high, and I can hear rocks rolling in one that flows by the place I work. :o
The weather also caused a double rock slide as well. One has the road totally shut down until the rain stops because it's still active and would take any workers with it into the river. It also has a rock bigger than a semi trailer blocking both lanes, so explosives could become a thing there.
The other is closer to town, but it still has on lane blocked. It took them over 16 hours to open it up, and that with a bulldozer.
--TK

Here's a video clip of the bigger slide. It gets interesting around 1 minute in. Note the full size tractor in the right bottom corner.

The rain finally stopped here. Sometime around 1 AM I'm told. Since Tuesday, we're at almost 4" of rain. The higher elevations got upwards of five feet of white stuff. Forecast for today is high of 50, with rain likely in the afternoon.
My grandmother is going to be arriving today or tomorrow for Christmas. She lives twelve hours away, over more than a dozen mountain passes. In storms, it takes a while.

We're at 17 with WC of 5. WAs much colder than that this morning. Guesser's are saying' snow around 9 tonight, and then an icy mix. I've got the keys to the kingdom this weekend, but my associate may have to kick in if we've got to salt ::) :-\ :o

Icy mix is here, 26F, going to around 0F tonight. Slicker than snot on a greased door knob out there, ran to the pick-up to grab something, almost fell on my arse, forgot how slick bare feet are, maybe I need hob nails in my soles, or Legos. ;D

First day off from my new job. Woke up at 7 instead of 5, then got up and drank coffee and froze mt tail off taking the dog outside. One thermometer said 19, the other said -5... It felt like the later, but in reality was about 10. Ice on everything. And, of course we have all city slickers up for Christmas, so there are car wrecks all over the place. On the bright side, my friend who works at Starbucks is getting a lot of overtime. ::)
Grandma should be up in a few hours. Then I have to drive her and a friend to another town in the county. Over an ice-crusted mountain pass.

Cold and damp here, just below freezing outside. Misting just enough to ice up the cars windshields. Don't know how the roads are, and since I'm off work today, I'd just as soon not find out. Spent a little "quality time" with Mr Husqvarna( The wood cutting kind, not a Swede Mauser),after lunch will do a bit more.

Might as well live in Visconsion, just got home -5 and WC -19, 'spossed to go to -11.
Had an invite to go camping, wish I would have, Ron has a nice wall tent with wood stove.

About an inch of the E.W.S. (Evil White Stuff) appeared overnight. That's close enough to a white Christmas for me, let's just skip to spring.

None of the white stuff, but plenty of ice. Had to put all the animal waterers in the microwave to thaw them. 20 last night, and not a cloud in the sky.
Headed to the city for church today. Mother is under the weather and grandma is tired from her trip, so they are staying home to watch the dog.

Getting ready for work right now. It's a little difficult, since my grandmother is in the living room, which is where I have to walk through several times at 5 am. Also where I work out in the winter time.
19 degrees right now. High of 55 and sunny expected. Going to finish flushing my power steering after I get home.

What an evening. Stupid semi feral cat got in the house. All the way back into the bedroom. Just finished up a long winter evening: 1. Chasing the cat. 2. Cleaning up the mess made chasing the cat. 3. "Sort of" fixing the broken lamp.
First, get the broom handles we use to hold up the old fashioned windows, then poke the cat from under the bed. Then poke it from under the dresser. Next behind the gun safe. Then back to the bed and repeat. Finally got it out from the bedroom, ran in the laundry room behind the washer. Blocked the door back into the house, then poke it from behind the washer to the dryer, then out the door!
On the plus side, had no idea what to get the wife for Christmas. The old "touch lamp" with the John Deere "D" tractors on the shade was leftover from the bachelor days anyway. I guess something different will take it's place now.

Really, neither one of us is a very good gift buyer. As long as we can afford it, we just get what we want when we want it. She doesn't try to buy any gun stuff for me, and I don't try to buy clothes, purses, or jewelry for her(unless she goes with me when we go to buy it).

Well it got to 45F here today, looks like close to 50 on Christmas with a possible thunder storm. Would really suck to get hit by a tornado on Christmas, not uncommon on Easter or Mothers Day or even Fathers Day.

I wasn't there for that one, I remember the '09 at Ft Hartsuff in October. Left Missouri at 60 degrees, to Nebraska with 20's-30's and snow, then back home to 60's.
Then there was that wind-rain storm that interrupted supper a couple of years ago.

OK, a bit of a funny here, the neighborhood I work in is supposed to be a rough one (not really compared to a real big city hood).
Anyway a customer locked his keys in his car with it running last night, not much I could do to help, was the only one there and had to run the registrar and such.
Well everyone coming in seemed to try and help, after an 1 1/2 hours they got it un-locked, tough neighborhood indeed. And the guy who got it open finally was the local semi-crazy guy that stands out there and has conversations with my trash can. Car owner bought him a beer and everyone was happy.
Dang, nice to belong to a closed group where I can tell stories once in a while with out it getting back to people, you guys won't tell will you?

I ain't sayin' nothin'. ;)

Guess it was a successful day, cut some wood, didn't cut me. Rode the Harley, didn't freeze. Shot the LCP some more, no malfunctions at all, shot my M-39 S&W, same results.

Sunny and 75 here today
-
I'm home eating my Christmas dinner finally, were about the only place open Worked 4-12 on the registrar, was the only one there from 5-12, did around $2700 in safe drops of cash, around $3500 total at the registrar (don't count credit cards at the pump) waited on 457 customers. (Some were more than once though but that many cycles of it.)

Morning y'all.

been out and back, temp is playing with 60 at the moment. Raining though. had to reshuffle the chairs in the clubhouse, people just seem to not be able to put them back the way they were. Spent some time with a hose trying to wash down the new concrete around the newest home here, was really covered with mud and sawdust. Was able to get about two thirds of it done before we were pulled off to do something else( as usual!) ::)
-
Nice outside here, sunshine and I'm guessing upper 50's, low 60's.Rain went through last night, gone this morning. Did some tractor repairing, now setting some gate and corner posts for a fence rebuilding project. Got the Allis Chalmers going, but the John Deere's gonna have to go to the shop, leaking hydraulic pump. Allis seems to generate water in it's hydraulic system, had to drain and fill, then do it again, the fluid is still kind of milky looking, but I don't have any more fluid to change it again.

Afternoon all. I've been busy, but I'm back. ::)
So, overview of my week.
My grandmother has been up, so we've been doing things. Traveling to the city for chow, cruising the highways through the county, and looking for rocks (Grandma is a rock hound. So am I, if you count gold as a rock. ::) ).
Temperature has been down around 15 degrees at night, so there has been some ice and sn*w most days of the week, but it melts off by noon.
We had some of the white stuff on Friday. I had the day off from work, but nobody told me, so I showed up at work at 6:30 to find an empty office. So I went out and played in the sn*w. Helped a traveler chain up going over one of the summits. Why he decide to hook a 1/2 ton 2wd truck to a 30 foot trailer and then drive over an icy mountain at 6:45 am is beyond me, but he made it. Barely.
A while later I went out to work on a video for YouTube in a place I go to frequently in my truck. But, I was in my mom's 2010 Explorer, just to see how it would do. The video was a fail (got lucky with that one, though. A 60 foot tall pine tree fell on the 'stage' I was using while I was off gathering more supplies from the forest.), so I headed back.
As I was driving back down the road, I came across a patch of ice. I was in second gear, going about 10 mph but the car broke traction. I tapped the brakes like I would in my truck, but with the ABS system, I didn't get much more than a light on the dash. By then, I was off of the ice and back in 1 inch of sn*w over good gravel. So I tried to lock the brakes and get traction from the gravel, like I would do in my truck. But, the ABS and traction control said no. The driver side of the car slowed down, while the passenger side hit the go juice and tossed me into a spin...and off the side of the road. :o
No major damage to the car: just a cracked plastic bumper and little dent in the hood that I fixed. Had to use my truck to pull the car out, but that worked and everyone is happy. I don't think I'll ever live it down, though my dad did almost the same thing on the way back home. ::)

Good morning all,
Thanks for the coffee. It's not a new experience for me, but it never gets any more pleasant. I spent most of the night with my head shoved under the pillow, trying to ignore the chorus of chickens. They would not shut up! All because they got on the roost wrong... I mentioned that to my grandma and she said, "wait until you have grandchildren." I'm not sure how to take that.
Anyway, I'm up at 0500, getting ready for "the grindstone." ::) After I'm done with that, I have tax paperwork, college paperwork, and in the evening FEMA training. I've already taken this course twice, but it doesn't count for some reason. ???

The gas pipes and water pipes are done. Next is fill the system with water and check for leaks. If no leaks, connect exhaust and intake air, then connect electric and see if it works.

Mornin Y'all, had to get up early to drive daughter to work, there is a chance of snow and the wife doesn't want here driving in it,She's 23,How is she supposed to learn how to drive in the evil white stuff if I chauffeur her around when it snows??? that's my rant for the day,Have a good one.

Morning all.
Weather is a foggy 25, with 15mph winds. Definitely driving my sorry butt to work. ::)
As Buck would say, I have the "keys to the kingdom" today. I don't get anything special for going in alone, unless you count having to do twice the work in the same amount of time. But that's why they pay me the big bucks. :P

It spit a few flakes this morning and that was it. Sun's out now, but no warmer than this morning. easy day so far, my associate is burning his personal days this week, so I've got the keys to the kingdom through the weekend.
On another front,SIL's back in the hospital. Did it to herself, wouldn't eat or drink much and played pick and choose with her meds. Result, dehydrated, potassium level bottomed out, and a u-tract infection. Also drove the wife to a high BP episode, had her to the ER yesterday and follow up at the Dr.'s today. On BP meds now, and coming down slowly. She's to check it several times a week for the next month, and to call if it stays above 160 consecutively ::)

Who knew it's so hard to hang four flags on a pole? ???
Anyway, today was sort of interesting. Part of the reason is, I got a new rifle. ;D Traded my mom's Ruger 270 for an original M77 in .243. She's wanted one (243) for years, but hasn't bought one. Well, now she has one. Next is a Vortex Crossfire scope to replace the Wally world Tasco that I tossed on it.

I always liked those Ruger M77s, but never owned one. Maybe because they look like a civilianized M1917.

My 19 y/o daughter went in the ditch after the first snow storm of this winter. It was a learning experience for her.

The M77s don't have a dogleg bolt. ;)
The boiler auto purged by the time I got home from verk last night. But, I woke at 01:30ish to a cool house. messed with it for 3 hours before plugging in space heaters and went back to sleep. At 07:45, I called the heating company where I bought the boiler. The tech walked me thru to get it heating again. It was setting that needed to be changed for the way I have to zones wired. So, we have heat again from the boiler. The owner of the heating company, wife's cousin, was surprised I got it hooked up already.
Leaving this afternoon for MN for the weekend.
'Tis 20 and cloudy. High 23.

Had some of the ugly white stuff over night. i didn't have to plow the streets, but did have to cope with the icy walks around the club house and mail boxes. they had new carpet installed in the club house and I spent the rest of the morning putting the tables and chairs back up ::)
-
I had a good day,Got to watch my Grand daughter. She slept a lot, woke up to eat then went back to sleep.
-
Went to an Uncle's funeral in Tecumseh Nebraska today, lived a long and good life, seen some relatives I haven't seen in a while and did some locker plant shopping and bought $40 worth of brats, ring bologna and wieners, beef sticks and the lot. New place in Tecumseh, spotted it going in and went back, good beef sticks and got some cheese brats, you have to love it though. ;D
Almost as good as "Joe's Meat Market, Grocery, Pharmacy and Liquor Store" in Loup City Nebraska I often hit to stock up coming back from the GAF Muster.

Morning all.
Yesterday was kind of weird. My grandma didn't put the coffee pot back together right, and it shorted. :o It's toast. So I went out to the shed and got the percolator and started t make some coffee, but apparently she doesn't like percolated coffee. Personally, I kind of prefer it, but don't the time in the morning. ANyway, my mother was able to find a small electric pot and use that, but I'm still a little confused about how adamant my grandma was about that coffee. ???
In other news, I hope to go shoot that new rifle later in the afternoon. We'll see how it does.

Brats and Wieners for supper last night.
-
An afternoon cuppajoe might hit the spot, thanks. I've sort'a been layin' low for a spell, in the doldrums; Baby Girl's mom moved to Calif. and took my Baby with her. Actually, Bella was pretty excited to be going, but she has lived a good part of her thirteen years with us, and going off like that has left a big hole in our lives - we miss her a lot. Cold here, relatively speaking, forties to low fifties most days, and El Nino has us getting a lot of cloudy days and some rain.
Anyhow, just thought I'd drop by and wish all of you a most happy new year. 017 has gotta be better than the past eight.
See y'all next year.
-
Del, them things look yummy ;)
Happy New Year to all of us here, may 017 be a heck of a lot better than 016 was ::)
