I talked to M'ette today, she said it was a data base error,Glad they fixed it.

Morning y'all.
Coffee and iced tea.
'Tis 64 and sunny. "Humid. Partly sunny. Patchy fog in the morning. A chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 80s. South wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 40 percent."
Slim

Thanks for the coffee....hot today, with slight chance of afternoon showers. Highs in the upper 90's with heat index of 105 plus. Low tonight is not expected to reach 80....this is August after all!
-
Y'all got the opposite of where we're goin' in my part of the world, Troy. Leastwise, last time I looked at the weather, they were telling me that it was supposed to cool down from 115 to the mid 90s. ::) That heat was terrible. It even killed one of our market rabbits. :o
--TK
-
Uh-oh...the rabbit died!
-
Good morning all. Here's the "hot bean water," as my friend calls it. ::) And some iced tea, as well.
Forecast for 100 today, with a 10mph breeze from up north. Should be a right pleasant day for going swimming. Might have to do that. ;D
--TK
-
90 ° here and graying, calling for 100% chance of precipitation tonight ...looks to be correct
Had a vendor invite me to lunch ( sales call thingy ) went to OUTBACK :( something was amiss cause, about an hour later, it made me sick...
I renamed it OUTHOUSE and I'll avoid that place from now on :-\
-
89 here. We were out cutting trees down :o :P ::)
-
Coffee and ice tea are ready!
Starting to cool off from our 97 degrees this week. Sunny and around 90 today. May brave the crowds and take a look at the vintage cars lined up in downtown Reno today. It’s easier to find parking in Reno than over in Sparks. There’s more shade from the buildings here too.
-
Mid to upper 90's here, not sure what the humidity is, but, when I went out to mow grass at 3 pm, it was still wet with dew. Mowed anyway, at least mower was working better, put new belts and idler pulley on the deck, and sharpened the blades. I think the old ones needed replacing for a long time. I think they have been bad enough they were slipping, blades seem to turn faster and cut better.
-
We are in the middle of a rainstorm. ::)
Slim

Took down 2 more trees today and trimmed another. 4 pick-up loads of limbs and cut wood.90 plus degrees out as well. I am plain wiped out :P

5:AM Eastern ...we got that rain and some more , and I'm still a tad GREEN behind the gills.
Debating a sick day :-\ I get-um, might just as well use one :-\

Debate settled...I'm stay'n' close to the familiar porcelain :(
Had strange Cough Drug induced dream though..
Seems I found my man cave/den door locked from the inside :-\ noted it was jimmy'ed
I when in and my wall hanger Flintlocks were gone , so were my Henry's & 73 >:(
Thief didn't take my SMLE or The Peabody :-\ or any of my revolvers.
wait ! I don't have a SMLE or a Peabody... WTH did he trade me ?
Then I woke up :o Henry's & 73 are fine and in the safe :)
Don't have clue what all that means .... maybe I need to buy a SMLE & a Peabody
taking more cough Meds now ...see what else I need to buy :-\

Morning y'all.

Goot morn'n
HOT and Hot today. 40 cents worth of rain spect'd.
Weekend the same 'sept rain is less'n likely.
-
Everyone needs an SMLE and a Peabody, Major. ::)
Well, my plan had been to go out and do a little scouting for deer season this morning, but I'm in a similar boat to the Major on that one. I'm hoping it's just something I ate, because I have to spend all day down in the city 50 miles away. :o Though, to make things more bearable, I'll probably come home with a receipt for a pe-64 Winchester. ::) I've been wanting to buy an old beater rifle and restore it, but I haven't had the time. But, now that I'm going to be home for a while without much demand for my time, I might as well. Plus, I know someone who'd be willing to take the finished project off my hands at a profit. ;)

Close to 90 again today, was supposed to be finished at noon. Ended up having to clean the pool after somebody's 4 year old pooped in it. :P Also had to go up north on town and get some more 3" chlorine pucks. HOF weekend, traffic up the kazoo and,of course, accidents all over the place. Had to take the long way home :-\ :P
-
Going to Platteville WI tonight look at a Suburban to replace the Caravan. Going with a co-worker that grew up there. 2.5 hour drive. Be home late.
The family is at the local cancer walk and they will be home late also.
Slim
-
Saw an unusual accident on the way home-somebody had rolled(yes, rolled!) a mobile home! Older single wide, 12 or 14' wide, maybe 60' or better, upside down. Don't think anyone's gonna be moving into that one any time soon, about 2/3 of it was totally demolished.
-
I see that sort of thing pretty frequently around here, PE. Had one guy roll it four times. :o
Anyway, trip to the city went okay. Not too much traffic, or too many people. I didn't end up with a rifle, though... The two best deals I could find were a late 40s Savage 99, 300 Savage for $499 and a Winchester '97 16ga for $300. Both in too good condition to really call it "restoring." I could have bough a Sears .22 for $65. It was missing most of the stock, and the bore was totally smooth. Not to mention that the firing pin didn't poke all the way out of the bolt. ::)
--TK
-
I saw one as it happened , on the way home from Horse Cavalry event once.... it was big Winnebago motor-home though
The older style tin box design... it happened on 1-95 about mile or so in front of me.... I saw it flip in a big cloud of dirt & dust and motor home parts....
it was on it's roof and the folks were already crawling out of it .... minor injuries, but the Motor-home was a sight ! and belongings all over the road and apron... Looked like bomb had hit it.
I was towing a goose-neck horse trailer, so with all the help from others, the Cops said we were obliged to pull on less we add to the snarl.
TK did the storms & fires spoil your quarter horse training gig ?
-
Probably had a failure of some sort, axle, tire, along those lines. Have had them here on old ones getting pulled out of the park. Now, a lot of the oldies just get torn down on the spot instead of pulled. Frames sometimes get repurposed, though ::)
-
Sure did, Major. I can't go into any details, but the broad explanation is that the fire is on multiple properties, and now there are legal issues, insurance problems etc. So, I may be going down in a month or two, or I may decide to say heck with it, and do something else. We'll see. :)
In other news, our dig is coming closer and closer to "daisy pusher" status. She runs around our meat rabbit cages and snaps at their toes, runs around the turkey coop and tries to get them, and chases the chickens around the chicken yard. We usually just apply a steel BB for these offenses, but yesterday she got out of our yard, and into the neighborhood. She chased some one of our neighbor's chickens until he chased her off with a well applied broom. After that, she got into another neighbor's yard and wanted to play with his dog. The problem is, this neighbor is a K-9 unit in the sheriff's department, and his dog is recovering from a stabbing. :o
Our dog should thank her lucky stars for heavy gauge chicken wire and vigilant deputies with pressure washers. :-\

Afternoon y'all.
Bought the '88 Suburban last night. My co-worker and I stayed at his parent's house last night. I got home 'bout 11:30.
The body and frame are in better shape than I expected. It came from NV and has been stored during the winters in WI. It runs kinda rough. My co-worker's father advised new plugs and wires. I'll do that in a week or so.
Working on a neighbor's computer.

was temped to acquire a Remington Mod.11 with 2 barrels, a 30" and a 26 w/ extended Riot mag tube...
Price was fair enough @ $350.00 ..nice clean wood & 95% + blue... :-\
There was a consigned Black-hawk in 30 Cal, too.... :P
-
A friend of mine has a .30 Blackhawk, says it's the LOUDEST firearm he's shot.
The mobile home was on a fairly narrow 2 lane road, I guess the driver was trying to keep it all on his side of the yellow line, probably got the wheels of the road and onto an embankment. Don't know for sure, though. When I went by there was nobody there, just an upside down trailer and lots of orange warning signs, tow truck was already gone too.
-
In other words.......TOAST. Turning it back up right would probably just make it worse. Probably will have to be torn down in-situ. ::) :P
-
Yup, it's toast-back end is torn completely "down" to floor level. Probably they'll just flip it over, tow off what remains, then pick up the scraps in a dump truck.
Lots of people around here used to live in these old ratty trailers-but when the scrap prices went so high, a lot of them got all the metal peeled off and sold, then the remains often just got abandoned.

Good Morning gentlemen. Coffee is on the brew and tea is icing down. :)
The weather is supposed to be around 90 today, with scattered clouds and 10mph wind. The alps may get some (more?) lightening, so CalFire and the USFS helicopters are on stand-by down in the big city. The National Guard armory has also issued advanced warnings to its members that they may activate to fight fires this week.
My plans for today include driving an hour to set up camp for the county fair, driving an hour home, then magically disappearing to my fishing hole before I get roped into something like...washing turkeys. ::)
I did manage to take my little brother out to do some scouting for deer season last night. We went to "my spot" where I do most of my hunting and waited. It's a bowl on the side of the mountain, about 250 yards across at the widest, and perhaps twice that from top to bottom. We normally see about 15 does there at any given time, and sometimes a couple of nice (read "4x4 or better) bucks. The does were there, but only one little forked horn. That's okay, though. Deer season doesn't start for another month anyhow. ::)

All the slick cars are startin’ to head out. Weather was perfect all week, just a little on the warm side the first part. Had 57 to 580 thousand cars registered for this year’s event spread out vover six different venues. All in all it was a very smooth Hot August Nights.
Sunny and 87 today.

Yeah, that was a slip of the fingers. Supposed to be 58 thousand. This was the 30th Hot August Nights and we were up about 2 thousand cars over last year.
-
Take off another zero, and you still have more cars than any two of the other towns in my county put together. :o
All went well today. No storming, weather was about 90 for the afternoon. All fair preparations went well and we leave tomorrow for the week.

On a side note, turkeys look really strange when they're wet. ;D

My oops was just a little compared to the one the paper made. They used the word thousand instead of hundred in the count of registered cars! They printed a correction in today's paper. I was beginning to wonder where they could park 57 thousand cars around here.

Night pot on, gents.
I have returned from my fair journey battered, bruised and covered in animal parts. The turkeys sold at auction for $20/lb (26.5 pound birds :D ), and my sister's rabbits went for $65/lb! :o :o :o :o :o 10 pounds of rabbit. I don't care who you are, that's an expensive cut of meat.
My sister took first place in turkey showmanship for her division, and my brother took small animal round robin for his division. So that adds two saucer-sized belt buckles to the whole thing. ::)
And, to cap things off, I spent five hours processing 30 turkeys, 18 chickens, and 12 rabbits. ::)
One other interesting anecdote here. Our fair is a terminal fair, so all auctioned animals show up to the buyers nicely packaged in paper or shrink wrap, no exceptions. Anyway, a fellow bids up on the grand champion rabbit pen, took it up to $55/lb, then when he went back to get the bill, the seller asked him if he wanted the meat frozen or fresh. He said he wanted them live, but that isn't allowed. So this guy gets into it with one of the auctioneers, and just walks off. So the grand champion rabbits were left hanging at the end of the auction. Fortunately, the FFA director for the county stepped up and took them at that price.

Evening gents, Hope everyone is doing fine. Been busy, I am taking over with my daughter as coordinator of the local 4H Top Shooters club. Both granddaughters are doing Archery and .22 rifle. They are doing great and learning how to safely handle firearms and bows. It is fun seeing young minds take hold of something like this. I wonder if it will survive this politically correct anti-gun world that is developing.

Good to see you, Tom. That will keep you off the streets. ::)

Ask in the powder room, bet some of them there know how. ;D
They say the Indians used percussion caps for them since slot of old American rounds used to use the system.
-
Slim, try a search for converting berdan brass over on Surplusriflrforum, there's several threads on that. How easy basically depends on the diameter of the existing primer pocket. But it seems a lot of trouble for common 30-06 brass.
-
Good Morning all. The coffee is hot, and the tea is iced.
Looks like I've got oatmeal on the menu this morning. ::)
Tom, 4H shooting does pretty well in the rabidly anti-gun state of California, of which I am currently a resident. I'm on of three 4H rifle instructors in my county, and we've done three projects in the past four years, with almost 40 kids total in participation. Considering that there are few than 100 4H kids in the county, that's a good number. ::)

Some have dome it by drilling out the Berdan primer, leaving it in place as a sleeve, or if the pocket isn't too oversized, decapping and then peening the edges of the primer pocket and the reaming to the correct size. For me, it seems that either option would be too much work for such a a common caliber as 30-06. Maybe just store it in a corner and wait to see if anyone, anywhere, imports any more Berdan primers.
I've got about 100 8mm Mauser I bought years ago that had been converted from Berdan, apparently by an arsenal somewhere. 40's and 50's headstamps, Berdan anvil removed, center hole drilled, pockets sleeved so well that some are hard to see. Was all loaded with FMJ bullets, and kicked like a mule!

Slim, sounds like a typical horse. :P Get it all shined up and the only thing it wants to do is take a mud bath. I had to deal with a couple of those this week at fair. Had a big halter show, so there were a lot of horses there. I was just sort of hanging around the stables with nothing better to do, and some person confronted me rather irately about how I had let his horse get all muddy. I told him in no uncertain terms that A: I didn't work there B: it was his horse, not mine and C: not to speak to me like that. Amazing how friendly some people can get when you don't take any bad mouthing from 'em. ::)

Me "That ain't my dog" !
speak'n' of my dog..... "Jake" is a Boarder collie....

Morning...coffee is ready.
The dog kept me awake most of the night....not the lab, but my dog, NiteHawk (not my choice of names...the kids....I call her "sh**head sometimes, and she responds!). The wife closed the bedroom door last night with NiteHawk in the room. Why she did this, I don't know...but, NiteHawk kept pacing and whining knowing that Riley (the lab) was on the other side of the door somewhere.
NiteHawk is a good dog. The only thing she does that is destructive is break fence boards! She uses the fence as a backboard leaping to reach squirrels and birds!
Her mother was a vizla, and the daddy may have been a pitbull (her head is shaped like one). She was a rescue, as was the mother and the entire litter, fostered by my X-wife. She was the only one that didn't get adopted from the litter, as she had a skin condition at that cute and cuddlely stage. The rest is a much longer story...

I'm kind of sorry I asked. ::)
Good morning all.
Weather man says we're supposed to reach 110 again today. if we do, it will be the 20th day this year. Normally we only get 5-9 days that hot. I'm not going to say anything about it to Al Gore though. We'd get another boring movie. :P
In other news, I popped into the gun store yesterday to say hello and learned that one of the guys who works there sold his 1911 and XD 40 to buy a wagon. :o It's a nice one, though. He's going to turn it into a chuck wagon for his reenacting group.

El Peludo....
Just got NETFLIX last month. I missed all of the first season, and caught some of the second season when it was originally aired. So, I've been catching up. I realized I missed some critical things that added to the plot, even on some of the episodes I saw on original broadcast!
I do like the show. I noticed in the credits that it is based on a series of books. I'll have to check them out.
-
We “officially” stopped our lack of rain at 89 days! The official reporting point of Reno/Tahoe International airport says they had “measurable” precip. yesterday afternoon. I think the wind was drying everything off as fast as it fell. There was more thunder and lightning than rain! So far there have been no new wildfires started yesterday.
Getting some more of the same splatter/thunder/lightning right now. Hope the fire don’t come with this batch.
Slim, getting back to work to rest up from the Fair Vacation? Hope you had a good time over the week!!

Looks like I may have a paying gig at writing, working out some details.

The only time we see 55 around this time of year is on a speed limit sign.
It is forecasted for thunderstorms and highs in the low 90's. The weather forecasters are saying the 3-digit weather is not going to happen, but this doesn't apply to the heat index! Not to worry, the A/C works and power prices are REALLY low!

Evening all.
Been out camping the past few days. Did a lot of fishing, only caught a few bass. Didn't have any worms, so I was stuck with plastic imitations. The fish didn't want rubber, I guess. ::)

I went fishing ...caught a cold.... sunburnt & cut my finger ....
discretion then , I now tend to... either get my fish at the market or one of those fund raiser fish fry gatherings & occasional soiree @ Red Lobster .
safer all round :)

But where's the fun in that, Major ;)
Coffee on the brew, and tea is icing.
Today, I'm slated to clean a chicken coop, and that's all I know. I haven't been allowed to see those shiny rocks. ::)
Had to travel to the city yesterday, get the teeth looked at by a guy wearing rubber gloves. Everything is how it's supposed to be, and I got a Bob the Builder sticker, so I guess that is supposed to make up for it?

Night pot on.
Not super busy around here recently. Mostly just making sure the dog doesn't get too out of hand. A friend and I found a new place for getting gold, so we went out there this afternoon. We went through about 3 5-gallon buckets of sand (you could call that 15 gallons, I suppose), and were rewarded with about 3 grams of gold all together. That is at least twice what we normally find in a month. ::) We recorded it and are going to put it on our respective YouTube channels. Though at this rate, it will probably be Wednesday before I can even get it all uploaded. Slow internet. ;D

3 grams of gold = $126.90 THAT IS a FINE DAY ! ;D maybe that's FIND Day ...very cool.

Wrapping out the loose odds & ends for CEDIA huge trade show in Dallas, before I fly out next Monday for 3 weeks.

August is winding down and has been rather uneventful. Now we are getting ready to head into a very eventful September.
We start off with 6 days of The Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook Off over the Labor Day weekend. The next weekend combines the Great Reno Balloon Races here in town and the Virginia City Camel Races in VC. The weekend after that we have the Reno Championship Air Races. Following that are 5 days of Street Vibrations Fall Motorcycle Rally.
Somewhere scattered in there are our wedding anniversary, the wife’s birthday and International Talk Like a Pirate Day.
That pretty much takes up the entire month.
-
Sept.19th is talk like a pirate day,I remember that because it's the same day as my anniversary. ;D ;D
-
It's the same day as my wife's birthday. Our anniversary is the week before.
-
All this talk about birthdays and anniversarys are a good reminder...my mother's birtday is Aug 30th (tomorrow), my favorite wife's birthday is Sept 1st, and our anniversary is Nov 25th. The year we got married, that was a "Black Friday", so we just celebrate the day after Thanksgiving regardless if it is the 25th or not.

Mine didn't go too nuts....I bought an 1851 Navy on the way home from work. I said, as I always do "Look what I bought for you, honey!". She asked if I was going to wrap it up and give it to her for her birthday. I said "No, I figured this is mine, and I'll go buy another for you...."

Mornin' good folks!
Thanks for the coffee.
It is high in the low 90's here today with about 30 cents worth of rain forecasted.
Should be a clear day on Saturday....regardless, we'll make the best of it!
-
Morning all.
Not much happening right now in my neck of the woods. Other than I just found out that on YouTube I've made eight cents. ::) Call me Rockefeller.
We've got the neighborhood deer sitting under the tree in the front yard chewing cud and nibbling the grass shoots. I'd be slightly upset at them for eating our grass, but there really isn't that much else this time of year. :-\

New job is not as bad asI feared, actually starting to like it.

nobody to antagonize you yet ? :-\ :)

Close knit, but poor neighborhood, a lot of minorities, but regular customers, they are making me feel welcome. I don't as my style notice them as anything but people, and they seem to do the same, not seeing much wanna be gang bangers, a different neighborhood for that.

Rough day here. A transformer at the front of the complex blew up last night. Started out with just half of few streets out. Power company jury rigged a fix till this morning. They had to kill power to the whole park to get a new one in, and had some trouble getting it done to boot. Power was out from a little after nine till about two this afternoon. We had to get the sewer plant back on line, then the pool area. Probably got some disappointed people as we're keeping the pool closed for the day to allow the treatment system to get the water circulated well again. Lastly, the well system that serves about 3/4's of the park had to be gotten back on line and the system "burped" to get water back to the homes. I finally had pressure here about a quarter to five. At least I was smart enough this time to take the aerators off the faucets to keep them from collecting a bunch of gunk during the start up. Do have to clean'em though as they haven't been off in a long while, and looked pretty bad when I got them off ::) :P :-\

Pretty much, ran into a snag on something and had to get my trainer to show me something, lady I was waiting on big old black lady, at leat 70, said "it's OK Jimmy, yer new here and we ain't in a big hurry.". Meant a lot to me.

I avoid typing on anything that uses a touch screen....including my wife's I-pad. Got to have a keyboard.
Babysitting a pressure cooker right now. Garden's doing too good this year, when this batch gets done there'll be 52 quarts of beans, one a week for a year! Made about 50 pints of pickles, not gonna buy more jars! People at work and church will just have to eat more to keep up.....Still making salsa, only have 20 pints of that so far. Wife's frozen a bunch of her Asian veggies. Looking forward to putting the canning stuff away soon, take a break from food processing until deer season gets here.
-
Touch screen don't get me started >:(
and those damnable touch/slide mouse things on the laptops ::)
I have a Logitech accessory mouse under hand, far better feel & control ...
-
Morning all.
I don't particularly like touch screens, either. I have an Android phone of some flavor, but typing in general is a PIA. I much prefer my computer with an actual keyboard...when it works. ::)
In other news, my padre is picking up his new handgun that I bought him. S&W M&P Shield 9. Oddly enough, my father that grew up in a home with an impressive gun collection and served in the Military never really did a whole lot of handgun shooting. We'll fix that. 8)
Now I just have to decide about my mother. Do I want her to have 5 shots of .38 standard pressure ammo out of a S&W Centennial, or 8 shots of Underwood Ammo/Leheigh(?) Defense .32ACP Xtreme Cavitator out of a Beretta tip-up. She can't work a slide on a standard pistol, and she was afraid of the recoil on my .45 1911, so I'm unsure which would be better. Right now, I'm really leaning towards the Beretta, just so it can pull double duty as a dispatch gun for me when I'm out in the hills hunting. ::)

just an opinion
I got my Wife a S&W Mod. 60 ...and load with Hornady Critical Defense...
I carry a Mod. 36 Nickel and also use Hornady Critical Defense
or if I have coat a 1911 ...but seldom
what Beretta are you looking at ?
