The Double M Cowboys will be hosting the 2014 NCOWS Convention March 28-30 in Springfield, MO. Springfield was the site of Wild Bill Hickok's gunfight with Dave Tutt. Wilson's Creek National Battlefield is also located in Springfield.
Along with the regular features associated with NCOWS Conventions, the Double M Cowboys will be holding a shoot the day before the Convention, March 27. The Safety Meeting will begin at noon, and following the shoot there will be a chili supper.
For more information, view the Convention flyer: http://www.ncows.org/resources/pdfs/2014-convention.pdf (http://www.ncows.org/resources/pdfs/2014-convention.pdf)
Also, the Double M Cowboys will have more information after October 15, posted on their web site: http://www.doublemcowboys.com (http://www.doublemcowboys.com)

I'm getting mine and Sierra Sues' convention registration ready to mail and was wondering if we were preregistering for the Thursday match?

For those of you heading out to Springfield for the convention, I just found this video posted on YouTube by Mike Beliveau show a really neat NRA museum display housed in the Bass pro shops headquarters in Springfield. It looks like it would certainly be worth seeing while you are in the neighborhood.

Okla Tom forwarded this to me for the NCOWS website:
"JUST ADDED TO THE 2014 NCOWS CONVENTION--- Friday evening, March 28th we want to invite anyone who would like to join us to meet at 5:30pm at the NRA Museum at Bass Pro(maps will be in your registration packet) and have a private, behind the scenes tour of the New NRA National Sporting Arms Museum by the gentleman who designed and installed the exhibit, Doug Wicklund. Then afterwards anyone who would like to have dinner at Hemingway's (located in Bass Pro on the same parking lot as the museum). Following dinner we would still have a few hours running around Bass Pro for shopping and viewing pleasure. This is quite an opportunity to see the brand new museum in a very special way!! We hope to see you there!!!!
Yeehaw!! I plan to wear my dress up cowgirl outfit and have a big night out on the town!!! Hope you join us for some cowboy/girl fun!!

That's great; except of all of the members of the Congress: they have to be at the annual Congress Meeting. (Which is the main reason for the Convention.) :(

Like minds think alike... may we assume we might attend earlier ?
-
Just booked a room for the convention at the Ramada Plaza and they said it was the last one in the NCOWS block with
no other rooms available, and we're still over 2 months away. Are there any other close motels for others or does everyone
already have rooms booked

Could someone from Double M post a list of venders? Thanks
-
So who do we contact to see if they can arrange a different time or day so that Congress members might attend?

Howdy Cowgirls and Cowboys,
My name is Roger Brogue AKA: Rootin Tootin Rangebum, I am a member of the Double M Cowboys, I would like to take a moment and address some of the questions being posted here.
We were not aware of any problems with hotel rooms at the host venue. We contracted for 75 rooms at a special rate but the hotel has more. We will contact the hotel Monday morning and find out if they are out of special rate rooms or out of rooms all together. Luckily, there are many many more hotels in the immediate area. We will post here a list of those in the very near future. In the event that some of our folks need to or desire to stay at another hotel, I would like to assure everyone that there is ample parking available at the host venue.
The NRA Museum visit at BassPro is a very unique opportunity for us. Due to the unique nature of our "behind the scenes look" we will not be able to duplicate this experience at another time. However, the museum is open 7days a week 10:00 A.M till 7:00 P.M.. Here is a link to there website: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/FullCMSContentView?storeId=10151&catalogId=10051&path=nra-museum-7594&fileName=nra-index .
We would like everyone to know that we are paying attention and will do everything in our power to make this convention one of the best yet. Please continue to let us know how best to make this happen.
Respectfully submitted,
R.T. Rangebum

Hey Cowboys and Cowgirls,
We had a talk with the venue hotel, they are not out of rooms and, as an insurance measure, we increased the number of rooms at the contracted rate. In the event that these are sold as well, the hotel has assured us that we will be able to increase the number later. The contracted rate will be available until Feb.28.
We will continue to monitor here but, there are contact numbers for club officers on our web site.

I had gotten mine in Oct. 13 and reconfirmed about mid Jan. ( I got a employee that knew his job)
Last year in , Ky. I got some yahoo at the hotel, didn't know squat... claimed there was no such Block, no such rate, Never heard of NCOWS yada yada ...took some added calls to confirm I indeed had reservations and they were blocked...
I suspect thats the case here... Somebody new or uninformed , spreading misinformation..
-
Roger, I tried to book a room last night and I was shown my screen that no more rooms were available for that time frame. I got a cheaper rate at Best Western, so that's where I am staying, the motel is south of I-44. I should be able to get around. I have spent many nights on the road at Springfield. I am going to be flying up there and I will have a rent car. I will be staying at the Best Western Deerfield Inn.
-
ah nuts...
I hope to see the NRA Collection, and I'm planning to shoot the day before....
When are you getting in ?
-
Please note that you will have to call the hotel direct to reserve a room for the convention. The national on-line/reservation desk does not know of our special room rates or that we have a block of rooms reserved. This is only at the local level.
Direct line to the hotel: 417-866-5253 or 888-532-4338
Looking forward to meeting you all in March.
Respectfully,

I am landing around 1130 am on Thursday. It will probably take about an hour to get away from the airport. I cannot check in at the motel till 3pm. I should up at the Convention Center by 4pm or so.

Shooting the match, too, but I will stay for the chili feed they've kindly offered. Gonna do the guided tour and dinner Friday night.
Mr. Irons is shooting the match also, but not sure of his dinner plans. Come to think about it, he more than likely will eat chili to wake up his appetite and follow that up with dinner. Then a light snack. ;)

Hmmm, I may have made an assumption, not base on the schedule :-\
I'm planning to shoot too, I figured the match was morning to afternoon and the Chili was Lunch ? :-\
I now note from their website, "... mandatory safety meeting starting at NOON and shooting
will commence upon conclusion."
-
Yeah, the shoot is an afternoon affair, lasting probably until supper time, depending on how many people attend the shoot. That may well leave not much time for anything after. We shall see.
-
I am not sure if we will attend the Chili supper. In general, I am not a fan of what passes for chili North of the Canadian River. ;)

Cut off date for setting up seminars is March 1st.
We would also like to ask everyone to try and have their convention registration form in by March 15th. This is to allow the hotel and us enough time to plan for the dinner.
Thank you!

Hey there Cowboys and Cowgirls,
I just got off the phone after making my reservations with the Oasis Hotel for the NCOWS Convention. I used the number provided by Ricochet earlier in this thread (417) 866-5253 or (888) 532-4338. I was assisted by Andy. I received the $77.00 room rate and Andy told me that there were plenty of rooms still available. Hope this information helps.

I am not a member, but am really interested in attending for the day on Saturday. Would like to peruse the vendors and maybe take in a seminar. Is there a charge at the door? Ok for a nonmember to check it all out??
-
I believe they have a "day pass" for something like $5 or so, I'm not sure what that covers and doesn't cover. I am sure it won't cover the banquet.
-
Gonna have grips, grips and more grips and will be giving some for the "hand-outs" at the banquet. Welcome to Y'all to Southwest Missouri. Enjoy the Convention, shoot, weather and whatever else comes along, just leave your tornados and bad weather at home. God Bless and shoot safe.
-
Hey there FiremanBrad,
Yes, there is a door fee of $5.00, so....Come on out and see us. If you can break away Thursday, the hosting club, The Double M Cowboys, will be putting on a six stage shoot starting at noon. Great time to come out and see how it all works. Directions to the range are on our website: http://www.doublemcowboys.com/
Hope to see you there, be sure to look me up and say hi.

Howdy Folks,
Just received a note from Lynch M. Two, she is the wonderful LADY managing all of our business communications with the hotel. She says:
For those of you who have NOT made your reservation yet at the Ramada Oasis, there are SEVEN rooms left at the convention rate. Make your reservation by phone ASAP to make sure you pay the "special rate" negotiated by NCOWS!!!! Their number is 417-866-5253.
Lynch M. Two
Remember, you must CALL in order to get the negotiated rate. Not to worry if you are unable to get a room at the Ramada Oasis however, there are many hotel/motels in the "immediate" vicinity.

Well Folks,
We've had a little misunderstanding here within the club. We thought that we had included the shoot information in the info packets being sent to those that have registered for the Convention but, we were mistaken. Sorry for the mix-up. Here is the pertinent info:
We will start with the safety meeting at HIGH NOON. The shooting will commence after we have gone through our rules at the Outlaw Range. We will use all the recognized NCOWS shooting categories. Since this is not a state, regional or national shoot, we will use the rules we follow at our regular monthly shoots. Some of you have asked if the shooting fee is waived if this is the first time you have shot on our range. That is something we do to welcome new shooters for our regular monthly shoots. We consider this a special shoot and we do not have that policy for special shoots. However, if you ever come to our monthly shoot we will be more than happy to allow you that courtesy in the future. We will be shooting SIX stages. If weather is an issue, that may change with a vote of the participants at the discretion of the CRO. Certificates will be given for the top category winner in their registration packet at the Convention check-in on Friday. Results will be placed in the convention packet also.
If you have not sent in your application yet, but you have decided to shoot, please let us know so that we can count you in as we plan the shoot. You can pay your $10 for the shoot and application on March 27th. It will just slow us down to start the shoot on the 27th if we have people show up we are not expecting. Thank you in advance for helping us out by letting us know.
AMMO COUNT(if you are planning on shooting 2 pistols, rifle and shotgun. If you are shooting with fewer firearms you will need less ammo):
60 pistol
60 rifle
1 box of shotgun shells
Working Cowboy will have 2 stages where they must reload
Respectfully submitted,
R.T. Rangebum
-
I'll ask the same question, as I did in my thread
Working Cowboy will have 2 stages where they must reload
Whats being re-loaded , and how many rounds each?
My pistol & Rifle are different calibers

Can anyone tell me approximately the Ramada Plaza is? My GPS needs updating and I really don't want the expense right now, but then again I want it to be able to locate the hotel ;) I'm not too concerned about road changes since I do have the Google Map driving instructions.

Major Two,
So very sorry for the confusion, there will be two (2) pistol (revolver) reloads in the course of the six stage match for the Working Cowboy / Cowgirl category. That will make the pistol (revolver) round count for the Working Cowboy / Cowgirl category, forty (40) rounds.

I regret I will not be able to make the Convention this year. I had the nerves in my lower back left side burned last week and the right side last month. That's three places on each side. That's what keep me going, but it takes a while to fully kick in. It's just too far to travel right now and I don't fly. Will sure miss seeing so many of you and the good times we have. At the taster's meeting lift a shot of rye for me. Hope to see many of you at the National. To the club that is holding their first Convention I wish you the best. Hope to make it next year.
