Title: Colt SAA Grips
Post by: Shotgun Franklin on August 08, 2011, 07:16:26 PM
I'm looking for 2 sets of one piece grips for my 3rd Generation Colts. I want plain one piece walnut grips, like those commonly seen on Uberti clones.
Where's a good place to start looking?

The grips for the Colt Single Action Army will have to be fitted - there's no drop-in set that'll work and look 'right'.

Several guys can fit these properly - mine were fitted by the late Ray Meibaum - which is to say that they'll be fitted as though the wood flows directly fron the frame edge onto the backstrap and triggerguard - flaring at the butt - with no discernable edge to be felt.

They'll also start life out being two-piece - due to the individual TG/BS assemblies, and they'll be joined by a spacer block.

Try Dave Lanara - www.davelanaracolts.com

Good Luck!

I have fitted 'one piece' grips before. I have a set of grips that could be rebuilt. I just have to have new grips about once a year. :P

Try a set of one-piece 'faux' Ivories with the device on the right panel only - like the originals.

I have a set of 'Mexican Eagle' on a 7 1/2" Colt, and once I re-cut the entire design with a single-line checkering tool, they look great.

The up-side is that the device sits directly in the hollow of your shooting hand - acting as a stabilizer in heavy recoil - and the grips have a slightly greater weight - additionally giving a greater sense of balance for an instinctive shot.

Good Luck!

Hi pardners,

If you are looking for genuine one piece grips, NOT glued to a spacer, I have them for ya.  Modern walnut or really nice old stock cut down in 1870, as close to the originals as you can get.  See my site and go to the photos page for a look www.davelanaracolts.com

Shoot often!

Another grip maker  I have used just this past year is:  OUTLAW GRIPS - Joe Perkins; call him @ (520) 888-6799 - google OUTLAW GRIPS and view his website and work.

Hope this helps.  HE does great work and they look and feel great!
