Title: Mint Spencer Shotgun with Photos
Post by: Two Flints on April 11, 2008, 08:17:00 PM
Hello SSS,

Recently posted for sale on Gunbroker.com.  A really nice looking original Spencer Shotgun.  Two Flints

"This Spencer Shotgun is marked "Spencer Arms Co. Windsor. ct. U.S.A. Pat Apl. 1882". There is a # on the under side near the trigger that appears to be #250. Model #1882, Serial #250, Slide action, 12 gauge. The shotgun measures approx. 48" long and weighs approx. 9-10 lbs. This shotgun is in excellent condition and has been very well maintained. I am told that this is a very rare Spencer".  {edited listing follows}  "Thanks for your question.  As I mentioned in my listing, I am not very familiar with firearms.  I am a licensed estate seller, but I am new to selling firearms.  I did take this gun this morning to a local gun shop for further information due to email questions that I was receiving from this listing.  I want to be very honest in my description and I am going in to update the description tonight.  He did tell me that yes, this is a Damascus Steel Barrel Spencer Shotgun pre 1900, possibly 1894.  However, he pointed out that the butt stock is not original and the barrel is currently not as stable as it could be.  He also said that the slide latch is not operable".

I've always wanted one of those, I don't know why I haven't bought one. I believe that one has been restocked.

Roosterman,

If you check out the Gunbroker.com site, you will see 3 or more Spencer Shotguns up for auction/for sale.  You are correct about the above shotgun and its stock, it is a replacement stock and I posted that information in the original post.
