Just wondering how many of my Pards in law enforcement have, or would encourage thier grown young'uns to seek a career in our field.

I personally discouraged all three of mine from following in their old man's footsteps. Wasn't too hard to do, being as how they repeatedly watched dad rehabilitating from one IOD injury or surgery or another. I retired with a 69% disability rating.
One son is a paramedic firefighter, though, for San Diego county. Personally I think that's worse than being a cop! Some of those wild fires he fights, he might as well be peeing on a bonfire!

My daughter just started as an officer in New Ulm MN. She is the fifth generation in our family in law-enforcement going back to the 1890's. All were Mpls Police Officers including her great-great great uncle, great grandfather, great great uncle, grandfather, two second cousins, and father (me). All were men, and she is the first female. Never coaxed her, never brought the job home. It's just in her blood as it was in mine. I'm really proud of her. Four kids 2-boys and 2-girls. Go figure? Why her? No idea. again, it's gotta be the blood. Anyway in about 2-4 years a grandson will be getting into it after college and he'll be the sixth generation. Now, If I live another 25 or so years, who knows? 7th generation?

My second son (we have three) followed me into corrections about 5 years ago. It has turned his life around, he moved to the capitol where all new correctional officers start in the big city gaols (yep! thats the way we spell jail). It turned his life around, he was always a good kid, but going nowhere, now he has settled back in Sydney (we started the family there before moving to the country) and has bought an apartment. It used to please me immensely when people said what a good operator he was.
It was funny, I was probably equivalent to Leiutenant rank for the last 13 years of my career and we were so alike, people used to salute him when he was a rookie at the academy, thinking it was me ;D Used to amuse me and mortify him :-[.
I pulled the pin last October. I'll leave the family name at work in good hands.

Daughter was USMC Shore Patrol, then worked for a small department in New Jersey.

#1 Son is a sergeant on a PD in Illinois. He's also an NCIS agent with the Navy Reserves.

I am a retired deputy sheriff and have a son who is a deputy sheriff. He is a lot smarter than I am, so he will probably retire sooner. I am very proud of him as well as my other son who spent 7 years in the Navy.

I have been active in unions and associations for years. I fought politicians and managers for more pay, better benefits and respect for Officers. Things are better but still not good. I discouraged my kids. The worst bad guy a Cop ever faces is a suit behind a desk.
