There will be a charter meeting of Hiram's Rangers at the NCOWS National Convention, Feb 17 in Council Bluffs IA. Hiram's Rangers will not be a travelling Masonic Lodge, but a strictly social, fraternal organization of Masonic western action shooters, like; The Beaver Lodge of Fur trade reenactors, or the Widow's Sons of Masonic cycle riders. Prospective members will need to give the "pass and token of the pass" of a Master Mason and produce a card that shows you are a current member of a Blue Lodge. There will be a suggested annual donation of $5 for record keeping and mailings. There will be an identification badge available at cost, with your #, Available for Master Masons and Past Masters. Badges will be purely optional.
See the website at <hirams-rangers.com>

Will there be any provisions made for those of us that are in far and distant places to join? I don't imagine that I'm going to make it from here in CA but I can send a copy of my current Blur Lodge dues card and a donation for record keeping, mailings, etc.
If this hasn't been addressed yet, you might give some thought.
This could turn out to quite a sizable group within NCOWS.

This weekend will be the first induction ceremony of Hiram's Rangers. Therefore there will be a full compliment of officers at the charter meeting in Feb at the NCOWS National convention. I think the time for that is set for Sat at 2 PM. I would like to get an idea of how many we will have, so if you are going to be there and want to be a HR or know someone who will, please post here or PM me. Also if you live too far away but are interested let me know and I will try to find a way to get you inducted. jt

Saturday evening Trap initiated Jerry Barnes, Books O'Toole and Dr. Bob Butcher into the Hiram's Rangers. The next scheduled induction will be at the NCOWS Convention in Council Bluffs, IA in February. All Master Masons are welcome.
-
Any Mason who is a WAS shooter will definately appreciate the initiation ceremony. It was really cool. I'm looking forward to partiipating in many of them at the NCOWS convention.

Is this only limited to NCOWS members?
Something as worthy as this should open to all CAS Masonic Shooters. Just a thought. ;)
-
This is open to any Masonic western action shooters. What I am trying to figure out is, how to get it started in other areas so more will be able to join without having to travel long distances. After the NCOWS convention I will have a better idea where we will have members who can bring in others. At that time I will contact those who have expressed interest to see if we can come up with a way to get everyone involved who wants to be a part of Hiram's Rangers.
-
Greetings,Trap!
Please excuse the late response to your West Coast call. I'm not CAS, but I'd be delighted to link up with any other like-minded Masonic Shooters!

Hey Trap,
I know we have quite of few Masonic Shooters here in the Commonwealth of Virginia. I am sure they would like to partake of this venture. Let us know how it will go and I am sure we would want in. Keep us all posted.

I will respond after the NCOWS convention to those in the outlands. I have a couple of ideas, but want to run them by our charter members.
-
Hi Brethren,
I also wish to be a Hiram's Ranger, but I cannot meet in person.
I was raised to the sublimed degree of Master Mason last week on Jan16th.
I shoot here in Arnold, Missouri. http://www.cowboygass.net/
There should be someway us Masonic Cowboys can join an internet fraternity.
I could set-up and run a website if that would be useful. I currently run http://www.shootershack.com
I am thinking about wearing the Masonic emblem on my holster. I am considering tooling our emblem in leather and making it a "slide-on" piece that slides on the holster like the SASS badge holders. What do you think? Is this appropriate?

What a great Idea!!!
I am not an NCOWS shooter, but I am a SASS shooter. I'm Past Master of Ashton Lodge #531 AF&AM in Ashton, Illinois. A life member and have been an officer in my Lodge for 32 of the 33 years I have been a member. I always try to have on hand the Masonic Shooter's Pins and give one to any Brother that notices it and request information on how to get one. I have probably given away close to 30 of them through the years. Unfortunatly, I can not make the trip to Iowa on the 17th. Please keep me posted as to how I may become a member in Hiram's Rangers.
Thank you,

Well, two weeks to the next induction of Hiram's Rangers, at the NCOWS National Convention. It is set for SAT. afternoon at 3 PM. You will need to have your Blue lodge dues card and be clad in 19th century attire. If you are a western shooter from any outfit, and can make it to Council Bluffs, IA. you can become a Hiram's Ranger and attend a round-up of a bunch of great folks and a great organization. If you haven't checked out the web-site go to <hirams-rangers.com> . jt

This is a great opportunity for us Brothers in Masonry to be able to incorporate the fellowship of Masonry withthe fellowship of CAS. I am sure that there a number of brother Masons who are CAS shooters in the State of Texas. I would be willing to help with establishing Hiram's Rangers in Texas.
-
NCOWS had a great convention this last weekend, and 4 new brothers were inducted into the Rangers. A couple from MN. and a couple from IA. Watch the website for their names. If you are near those areas and want to be a Ranger contact me and I will see if we can get you together with any of these brothers to induct you. One of our new Rangers will be in the Phoenix and San Francisco areas this spring ,and has graciously agreed to try to meet with brothers to induct new Rangers. You can contact me for his E-mail to set up a meeting. Meet on the level. jt
For those of you that have contacted me before this date, I will be in touch.

The next scheduled induction will be Mar 24, Topeka KS. at the GAF shoot. Remember you need to have your current Blue Lodge card and Be clad in 19th century clothing.

I had hoped to be able to do more traveling as I got older but my job has me pinned to South Texas. I have my Blue Lodge card and am in good standing at my lodge and in my valley, I would be able to fax or e-mail a copy of it to the appropriate brother, but moving about the country is not possible at this time fact is I'm lucky to be able to shoot with my club more than twice a year right now. I'm trying to rectify this but right now I'm on call 7X7 here.

Hello the camp.
I've been admitted into the ranks. I'm located in central Indiana and will be on the lookout for Brothers who may be interested in the Rangers.

I just tried the link in Dr. Bob's post and it worked fine from here.
I have a request though. Would it be possible to include our aliases in the name section of the web site. Most of us would be unrecognizable with our real names ;D
-
Howdy Brothers,
This evening, on the way to the NRA Convention, I stopped in St. Charles, MO and added Troy Derringer to our ranks. He is our web master and a fine fellow. Welcome aboard Troy!!
Any Masonic CAS shooter that is interested can stop by the NCOWS Booth Friday, Noon to 2 pm or 4 to 6 pm and make arrangements to join Sat. or Sun. I think that I will be ther 2 to 4 on Sat. and 3 to 5 on Sun.
-
How many would like to have their alias on the web site? I would have to ask the webmaster if it is possible, Being an NCOWS shooter I really only use an alias here

Anyone wishing their alias on the ranger web page may contact the webmaster by email , give your name ,# and alias and he will add it. Meet on the level. jt

All you Rangers out there need to be wearing your badges to shoots so people (Masons) will ask to be included. If you haven't ordered a badge yet ?? There should be some paperwork comming in for new members. We have rangers in 10 states, the roster should be growing in those areas.

I am wearing mine as I have an intiation to do at the lodge tonight. I always get comments and questions when I show up in my authentic 19th century attire. Our lodge is quite casual so showing up in black pants, white shirt, black silk tie, black & white herring bone tweed vest and black frock coat makes quite a statement.

Rangers, if you have any spare time to read, here are a few good books that are worth your time. The Hiram Key and The Book Of Hiram, by Knight & Lomas. Rosslyn, Guardian of the Secrets of the Holy Grail by Wallace-Murphy & Hopkins. Also I am a little mystified as to why there are not more Rangers being brought in to our ranks.? I know that when I have spoken to many of you there was interest from Brothers who you knew, If there is some problem let me know by PM. I can call you if you want , just let me know. Frankly I think it would be a lot of fun but I don't attend the blue lodge enough to justify in my mind another membership in another Masonic based club. Of course I have four children at home still so I don't have much time. Some of my brothers belong to about a dozen different lodges, appendant bodies, and clubs and seem to be active in all of them. I don't know how they do it. Personally, I'm still trying to get my stuff together to actually do some CAS!! I do think it is great that youall have come up with a way to bring the brotherhood of the craft and CAS together. I know in some of the reenacting circles they have been able to have something similar and it adds a neat element to the hobby.
-
I too have had a problem with time management. I have been involved in the Brotherhood since '77. I was stationed in Japan and joined Kokusai Lodge #15 and enjoyed the fellowship. I never demited from my home lodge when I retired from the Air Force and this created a problem. During one of my last moves, the lodge got my address mixed up and we had a disconnect. When I finally got in touch with them, they told me I would have to reaply and be voted on to become a member in good standing again. This was how I was treated after being a member in good standing of this lodge for 25 years. Well to make a long story short, I was hurt, disgusted, and left the lodge.
I am now trying to get in touch with them again so I can demit and affiliate with a local lodge in my community. This is like trying to apply for disability through the social security office. I am so (expletive deleted) mad and discusted with this problem that I have just given up. :(

I was raised up last night. I sure wish I was going to be at the national shoot so I could be inducted into the Rangers. That was my plan when I started my Masonic journey last year after we returned from Evansville. Oh well it was not to be. Enjoy yourselves my brothers.

The past several Ranger applications I have receieved have had the page titled conferring the degree, enclosed that is fine but not necessary. the only page I need is the one titled Hiram's Rangers with the new rangers info. You can save the copy. We are up to # 75. On the Level. jt
-
Trap,
I will quit sending the extraneous page but I wanted to take time to thank you for getting Plumas Will's name right, I promise to improve my penmenship in the future.

Things have been quiet on this thread lately but we in the west will be inducting a new ranger in march, at least that is the plan.

We will induct several at the NCOWS convention in KC KS Mar 18-20. I believe the 100th Ranger will be sworn it in early summer.

I'm hoping to be #100, if I am accepted.

Maybe for a modest contribution(compared to the national debt) that could be arranged.

Paperwork?

None needed. Bring your current lodge membership card. That is all that you will need in the way of paperwork.
-
Thanks Bro Doc. That's all the paperwork I have!

Bro. Steel Horse,
You are just one lucky fellow! What you have is all you need. Doesn't get any better than this! ;D

I wanted to get in last year at the NCOWS National and get number 64, ;D at the time you only had two numbers to get to #64..but it didn't work out. >:(.I will be at the National Shoot this year.. ::)
Cash Creek, Past Master Evansville Lodge #64, I was Master in 1989, treasurer the past 21 years.. :o

I'm not able to attend the Nationals this year. I hope that the Hiram's Rangers will be gentle with my Brother SHB. He bruises easy.

I appreciate your concern, Lil' Jimmy!
Seriously, Thanks Bro. Jim

We took real good care of Bro. Will Ketchum at the Convention meeting this year.
-
He deserves all the care and attention he can get! Good pard!

Jim, one of you guys need to remember the goat. Dr. Bob just wasn't that good of a substitute ;D

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
-
Does one have to be a NCOWS member to join up with the Hiram Rangers???
-
The only requirements to join are:
1 Be a Master Mason
2 Be a CAS shooter
-
That's not an image Ah needed in my mind. :P WM

Would it be possible for me join this fine organization? Been a MM for a few years now and just began shooting CAS (and boy do I love it!!). I am not really able to travel right now due to my job. Do yall ever have any of your initiations around the Houston area?
BTW, our lodge has masonic key chains made for us once a year. I had mine clipped to my pants at the last shoot. The property owners son came over and asked me about it. He said that he was going through the degrees. We managed to get him suited up and had him shoot one of the stages. We may have another brother shooter added to the club soon ;D

My computer has been down for awhile. Also I lost some emails. I know that we have lost another ranger but I lost that email so haven't got it in the roster . If someone would resend that info I would appreciate it. Also if you have sent me info and I have not gotten back to you Please try again.
-
Computer still DRT. Please be patient. If you have applied on line, you may still need to re-apply. Sorry, I will get caught up after the Nationals. On the level jt
-
I've had a sllight change of heart. IF possible, rather than be #100, I'd officially request to be considered for #99 or #101. (But ANY membership to this fine organization is fine - I just have got a new personal reason for wanting one of these numbers. IF possible. Thanks!!)
-
I am a fisherman so patience is my virtue. But how do I apply? where do I go?
-
LL, You need to contact John Torrance AKA TRAP. He is the Brother who organized. You will need to send him a copy of a current dues card.

Or you could show up at the NCOWS National Match (June 8-11) at Evansville Indiana. There are going to be multiple inductions; probably on Friday evening.

It was a great ceremony and I thank all my friends and fellow Brothers. I'm very proud to now be a member.
-
Anybody heard from Trap? I gave him my info about a month ago and never heard anything back. ???
-
Trap's computer died. It's at the repair shop.
-
Any idea when the list will be updated? I'd like to know whether I'm officially #105 so I can call Star Packer.
;)
-
SHB, Trap has had computer problems as of late. I would assume that the list will be updated when the computer woes are corrected. L J
-
I was understanding at the H.R. initiation that his confuser pproblems were past us. He said the list should be up by the following Wednesday. That was a week ago.
I'm not bitchin' ... I'm just proud and anxious.
And I want to be SURE I got #105 before I call Star Packer!
;)
(Since I didn't have enough Masonic seniority to get 99, 100, or 101, I picked 105 ... as in 105 mm Main Gun, #68 (IIRC) the size of the gun on the M1 Abrams tank when they first appeared. Now the M1A1s & A2s (like I took to Iraq) have 120 mm guns. But that number was too far in the future.
;D
IF you're interested, here's a brief rundown on the 105 mm and a short film about the newer 120 mm guns.

List should be updated shortly. As said I have had a dead computer for some time, Now fixed ! If you sent me request to join HR and I did not respond Please resend info. jt
-
SHB, You missed it by one, You are #104.
-
Well, Rats. Trap was going to nskip 104 - IF possible - so I could have #105. I guess it was too confusing to have one out of sequence.
The IMPORTANT part ISN'T the number. I'm proud and grateful to have been accepted
-
Jeff, Check again later.

Jeff, Check again later.
Thanks, Pard!

If you are a western action shooter, and will be near Louisville Ky the 16-18 of Mar, Hiram's Rangers will be Inducting new recruits. You will need to be attired in 19th Century clothing and be able to prove you are a member of the brotherhood.
All this will take place at the NCOWS National Conxention. Go to the NCOWS board here on CC for all the details on the convention. You do not have to be a memberof NCOWS to attend.
-
Bro. Trap, I hope we have a good turnout of members at the Convention and inducting new members.
-
Trap,
We are going through consolidation with another lodge but once things settle out there will be at least one new ranger I will be in touch.

Howdy, Brothers!
This isn't specifically a Hiram's Rangers post, but I'm so proud and I need a place to share my news with my friends and Brother Masons.
I had the honor & joy of raising my Son into our Masonic Brotherhood this past Saturday! (8 Feb.2014) After talking and making the decisions that go with it, my Son asked me to recommend him into the life of a Free & Accepted Mason. After all the memory work of both EA and FC, he went through the final steps and now is a Master Mason. I was able to raise him myself. Since I'm still relatively new at this, I didn't realize that I COULD actually be a part of the ceremony, but my friend, Dave "Jed Cooper" Hollandsworth, or (now former) PM of Wayne Guthrie Lodge #753 called me Friday evening to ask if I wanted to be more than just a spectator, so after explaining that I certainly could do the deed, I happily said "Yes!"
My Son, Gareth is a shooter, but not a CAS shooter so I beg your indulgence and let me announce how proud I am of this honor and share my joy with the rest of you, my Brothers! As he gets older has gotten more of an interest in history and so perhaps some day he will become an NCOWS member himself and will be able to become a Hiram's Ranger himself. Right now, his historical interests lie more in keeping with his Scottish heritage (my Wife is from Glasgow, Scotland) but perhaps he will get more into the history of MY country, the good ol' U.S . of A, and then learn of the Olde West era like his old Dad. (Who seems & feels old enough to have BEEN part of the Olde West, sometimes! ;) )
Thanks, Brothers - and I hope to see you all at the NCOWS Convention or at least at the 2014 NCOWS National Shoot.
Respectfully,
Jeff "Steel Horse Bailey"
Hiram's Rangers #105
-
Congratulations Jeff and to your son Gareth. I have wanted my sons to become Masons but so far they haven't really expressed an interest.
Pete
-
Thanks, Pete!
I hope they join. It took me over 20 years from the time I first got interested to when I actually joined, so there is still a good possibility for them to join.
