I had a 2nd gen 1860 at Jay Strite's since spring to have him make it into a Richards 1. Well he sent the gun, deposit, and a letter back explaining that he is retired from gunsmithing. Is there anyone else that does authentic looking Richards 1 conversions? Thanks.

Caltom, I knwo the feeling but there is hope if you are prepared to handle shipments to Austria.
I can point you to two master gunsmiths and conversion artists.
Both do excellent Richards 1 custom conversions.
The first one is Karl Nedbal - - who did most of my Colt pattern custom conversions incl. a Richards, Richards Transitional, Thuer, you name it.
Karl works with Centaures, 2nd gen Colts and Ubertis.
The last project he completed for me a few weeks ago was a pair of Colt 1861 Navy RM conversions using a 2nd gen Colt and a Uberti.
He copies the originals in his personal collection.
His usual turnaround time is 3 months.
Karl's customers are mostly collectors and shooters.
The second is A. Baumkircher -
From what I hear Baumkircher does very satisfying work.
His customers are primarily shooters.
