We had an Airstream, handed down from the folks. That was really tight for 2 adults and 2 boys. It died. We then found a 12x32 "Tiny Home" with a loft at either end. Much more room, but not enough. We also have 10x20 storage shed, half of which I cleaned out and took over as a leather shop. When I have the genny hooked up, it has lights, fans, and nobody else in it. I like my shed. We also have a small cabin we built the first year here, 8x8 inside, and just enough room for one person and their stuff. Our youngest boy is currently residing in it, he needs space away from his parents.

What is really a shock, is that we moved out of a huge 5 bedroom house with 3 bathrooms and a 2 car garage to live here.

I've watch the Tiny House Nation ....With camera angles , emphasizing the upbeat & clever ideas....
It is still a BOX ....
In real day to day living neither practical nor practicable.

For day Cabin or weekend retreat sure .... perhaps for two cozy persons a few weeks ....beyond that  NOPE !

Yep it is preaching to the choir...

TK them Barred Rock hens lay hugh eggs.

Got to run keys back to work then go to church. They are both on same road about 2 miles apart.  But first a cup of cheap coffee.

Morning all.

We're 33 and wet here in California right now.  Had a little of the white stuff I'm told.  I don't know, though.  I took some cough medicine before bed and didn't wake up until 10:00. :o  Nobody woke me up to go to church, so I'm at home keeping an eye on my mom, who has a fever.  The positions have switched.

Roo, we have a Barred rock hen already.  She's one of the more dominant hens, but she's friendly, likes being held, and was one of our best layers until she went into molting.  Now she's not laying.

I'm thinking I might grab some subsonic ammo that I have squirreled away for the 22, grab my dog and go try and get a bunny.

I think a 12X32 is bigger than most of the "tiny homes" I've seen, most seem to fit on a 16" car hauler. I lived in a 12X52 for 10 years as a single guy. No loft, though. Ceiling was only about 6'6" or maybe 6'8". Wood stove would keep one end warm, while the bathroom would still freeze. Stayed in there one winter with my first wife, then we moved into this "spacious" 900 sq foot or so 1920's farmhouse, that I'm still in.

Afternoon ladies and germs. ;D

55 in the low areas right now.  Below freezing up above 5000.  The white stuff has accumulated above 6000.  I talked to a friend in the USFS who says there is up to 6 inches above 7000.

I've got bread dough rising in a sunbeam, and some chicken thawing in the sink.  Thinking I might roast the chicken and make gravy from the drippings.  Add some mashed potatoes and green beans, and we'll have a meal.

If you yearn for a succulent steak or a thick, juicy burger but want to avoid all that fat and cholesterol, there is another choice. It's what the Australians have been eating for hundreds of years - flavorful red emu meat. Similar in taste and texture to beef, red emu meat has more protein and less calories and sodium than most other red meat. With only two grams of fat per four-ounce serving, emu meat is a heart-healthy alternative to conventional red meat.

No dog in the fight, but I sound like an ad man....I what to try it though.... :)

Lived in rural australia all me life - eating emu (or kangaroo) is one of two things
1) a passing fad undertaken by city yuppies who think its cool
2) an act of utter desperation undertaken when there is no alternative but to starve
emu egg is ok .... tastes like................egg (so long as they fresh of course)

offhand - do not know anybody eats em . (emus I mean) ... the emu oil is great stuff for aches and pains -- also oils yr boots .

I think most of the big Turkey legs you get at Disney and Ren Fairs are Emu.

I wonder what a day or two in the smoker might do for some emu drums?

Roo just got himself on some government watch list for searching that up, I'm sure. ::)

Morning all.

All is foggy on the western front.  28 degrees, frost on everything.  Going to take dog out later and look for turkeys.  Fall season starts Saturday, and I fully intend to be out there opening day.  Going to try and use my dog to hunt the suckers, since that's legal in California.  The lab half likes to flush the flock, then the collie half wants to try and corral them back together.  So while she's doing that, I just have to find one in a tree and stick a Zwickey Eskimo through the middle and we'll have thanksgiving dinner.  WOrth a shot anyway.
