How the heck is everybody doing?
« on: October 07, 2017, 10:22:15 PM »
Good Evening in the Barracks.  Just dropping in to say "Howdy."  I am awaiting retirement from the Army Reserves and my kids are old enough that they don't need me carting them here in there for the weekends, so I was thinking that 2018 would be a good year to start back up with CAS.  Not sure if I will be doing the Military stuff as much as I did in the past as I am honestly kind of tired of wearing uniforms, for a bit anyway.  I currently recovering from rotator cuff surgery and it is probably not a great idea for me to try to shoot right now.   ;)

You should come up to the National Muster.  I think things have changed considerably since you've been here.  (For the better, I think!)

The rules are the same in that you still don't need to wear a uniform to shoot with us

I always like shooting up there.  So it would be great to see how you guys improved on excellence.

As hard as it must be to imagine, I really believe we have. We're shooting at a different range that allows us to do some different things. Make plans now! Everywhere I went this year I had people telling me they'd heard about the shoot that I host and that they were planning to attend next year. We have to cap participation at about 40 and we've been running 30 the last few years so it's not inconceivable that it could sell out.

It seems like you used to travel with Col. Diamond. He's been a regular up here the last several years...and at KVC. You might want to get in touch with him. I know he's been coming up here with Wooly Dan so might not have car room, but he could advise you. If you choose not to camp, I'd contact either the Comstock Lodge here in Sargent or the Wildlife Inn in Taylor. Both offer our participants special rates. The Comstock reserves the whole place for us and usually sells out. The folks who have been staying at the Wildlife have been pleased with them as well.

Richard:

The current "skirmish" format is really enjoyable, and can be downright challenging ... as so kindly demonstrated in some of these videos  from 2016 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAQNQjAFGMQ&list=PL3RChRKXZ0aW74y_obJnU9iR6fWUc3yMl

2016 was the last year I was able to attend - I was registered, and had reservations at the Comstock, but had an unfortunate loss of a sister-in-law at that time and had to forgo attending.  However, the General was kind enough to transfer my registration to 2018 (... so I assume I am the first registrant for next year! ...  I also unfortunately missed 2015 ...)

You might even consider relenting, and competing in uniform ... although, as Pitspitr mentions there are a variety of shooter categories which don't require uniform .... I have continued to punish myself in that regard ... plus voluntarily handicapping myself by competing with .577 Snider-Enfield rifles.   These are my field uniforms from 2014 and 2016 (and I did swelter through shooting at least one or two skirmishes in full kit both years!)
