Mine are (in no particular order);
Legends of the Fall
You Know My Name
Untouchables
Bonnie and Clyde
Sand Pebbles
Lawless (in spite of all the gun grabbing hypocrites in the cast)
The St. Valentine's Day Massacre
Fury

Like all of those.
But. You are missing..."Last man standing" and "Road to perdition", just for starters.
And, even though is not a theatrical movie "Boardwalk empire"

I'll back way up and say 'The Roaring 20s' with Cagney and Bogart is a good one but my favs are Last Man Standing and The Untouchables.

Any list of this type that does NOT include "The Maltese Falcon" is wrong.
Also, "To have and have not" Bogart and Bacall at their steamiest. Walter Brennan steps out in a Tragic role.

Have to include "Public enemies" and "The public enemy"
And "The Cotton Club"
And "Mobsters"
And "The Valachi papers"
There is a big list of favourites, they are slowly coming to mind.
PS. And yes "Roaring twenties" also gets my vote. And The "Maltese falcon" of course

Aaaarrrrghh!
So did I.
So, we have also "The big sleep", the one with Bogart.
"Miller's crossing". That scene with the Thompson with "Danny boy" as a background music is spectacular.
And there is more...They'll come back from the back of my mind.
PS. As I was typing, just remembered "Once upon a time in America.
And although it's a tv series. "Marlowe" with the late Powers Booth.

They didn't need to necessarily have a gangster theme to be great for for era costuming and customs.
Chinatown (one of my favorites)
The Two Jakes (China town squeal)
The Great Gatsby (I prefer the 1974 version)
1926 W/Warner Baxter (Silent)
1949 W/Alan Ladd
1974 W/Robert Redford
2000 W/Toby Stephens (TV)
2013 W/Leonardo DiCaprio

In light of current events how could we forget Key Largo, Bogie and Bacall trapped in a hurricane with Edward G. Robinson as the heavy.

Would Legends of the Fall qualify? It was WW1 and post. Regardless, it was a great movie.

But it starts Pre-Prohibition in the Indian Wars Period and goes all the way through the early 1960's. Most of it is set during prohibition
Besides it has some of the sexiest movie stars ever; the Henry, A rolling block, a 1873 Winchester, the Single Action Army, the Lee-Enfield, The Webley, the Police Positive, and 1908 Colt, a Couple of Smith & Wessons including a L-frame snubby, the 1874 Sharps, a Holand and Holand double rifle, and the Thompson. With all that sex appeal it's my kind of movie!

Me too, but I think the cop with the Thompson was a good guy...after he was on the receiving end of the Col.'s double.

Yep..the Col could't have picked a better target.
The first time I saw the movie was on video..yes...video, at home. I had no clue who made the final shot..I was up from the chair screaming "who shoot??? who made that shot?
"....The '73 certainly did a fine job there!

One I've just been reminded of: "Lucky Lady" 1975, Liza Minelli, Burt Reynolds, Gene Hackman. Rum running on the high seas. The Battle at the end alone is worth the price of admission. (A magnificent round up of ocean going Ner-do-wells to inspire y'all) but Liza's singing is damn fine as well. And she does look good in those flapper outfits. Some great Lewis Gun footage too!

Also Thoroughly Modern Millie.
You might notice I don't take most movies very seriously.
