Hi, I would like to know what the style holster would have been popular in the upper Midwest in the 1870s and 1880s? Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, and South Dakota area.

A 'Mexican Loop' style would have been most common.

That's what was available in the mail order catalogs and dry goods stores.
