Thanks, and I'd take you up on it but I know your predilections and a 3" barrel on a lever hammer just seems weird.

I hear you. I was waiting for the price of these to approach the Uberti product.  I was not a buyer at 1500.00.  I do think there could be some market saturation with .44-40s generally; I have seen Ubertis that were pretty nice falling in price as well.
