Metropolitan Arms Company, NY
« on: October 27, 2017, 06:24:37 AM »
I am seeking information on this 19th century gun maker.
The goal is to have a better understanding of this company's relationship with Colt in Hartford and their reasoning to make and supply the US Army and the civilian market with C&B revolvers of Colt design (open top).
From what little I could find out this happened possibly between 1864 and 1866.
Any information is appreciated.

See Flayderman's book on antique American firearms.

I'm away from my references, or I'd look it up for you, but you should find the information under 'Secondary Martial Revolvers'.

Copies are often found in Public Libraries and at Barnes and Noble's.

See Flayderman's book on antique American firearms.

My copy is old (there's some irony there), being a 2nd edition from 1980, but here is what it says about Metropolitan Arms.  There are more details about each model, but this is the introduction.  Hopefully that helps.

Thanks St. George and Coal Creek Griff.
From what I understand between 1864 and 1866 Metropolitan Arms produced clones of the Colt 1851 & 1861 Navy and the 1862 Police.
All in .36 cal..
But the cylinder scene differed in the Navies and what looked like a creeping loading lever in the 1861 and 1862 was kind of an abbridged version with a screw through the barrel lug not covered by  the Colt patent.
Thanks again
