Did any Texas Rangers use Schofields instead of Colts?
« on: February 15, 2017, 10:55:13 PM »
https://www.americaremembers.com/product/texas-ranger-tribute-schofield-revolver/

This article, in passing, (and as the specific gun suggests) mentions that several Texas Rangers carried Schofields (interestingly, not Model 3s or S&W Americans but specifically Schofield's designed for the Army by Major Schofield).   Is this true?

Doubtful.

The revolver most closely associated with the Texas Rangers is the Colt SAA.

The ad just wants one to buy the product - the method is to associate it with an historically significant time, place, unit or individual.

This reply has no real contribution the OP.  I don't know.  No idea.  Never read the histories of the Texas Rangers.  However:

I did once visit the Texas Rangers Museum.  Well worth the visit.  Some of the most incredible presentation Colt 1911s you'll ever see.  the 1911s were presented to out-going Captains upon retirement.  Fabulously crafted and hand tooled gun belts, holster and mag pouches.  Most are double rigs in the Buscadero style.  Also on display are some of the finest presentation saddles on the planet.  Tooling to match the guns belts.

If you make the visit, I strongly suggest you include a roll of paper towels.  Your gonna drool all over the floor, the hand rails, the carpets and just generally make a mess   ::) ;D

At the Museum, in a display case near the front, are many firearms associated with the Rangers.  Included is a Schofield, which may have been carried by a Ranger.  Additionally, in the hallway going down to the theater in a display case is a S&W American with its holster.  this one definitely has Ranger provenance.  Leander McNelly, of Nueces Strip fame, was known to have carried a S&W American as well.

Ron
