Howdy
Been thinking about adding this to my Christmas list . Who has one and how do you like it ? And would you post pictures . I have been looking at this on youtube and it looks good . Mostly positive post and with it being a Ruger ,thought it would be a good shooter .

If my memory is correct, in the inexpensive side of 9mm lw commanders, you have Colt, Ruger & Springfield.
Between several of my friends I've had experiences with all of them.
I also have a gov. .45 from Ruger, and the Ruger is the one I'd recommend, mainly for the warranty.
The only real difference is sights and grip panels between the three.

That said, the Dan Wesson 9mm Valkyrie Commander is much nicer than those three, albeit at $1750 ish.

Got a chance to lay my hands on the ruger . It was nice and light , and had a GREAT trigger pull . Don't know how it shoots ?  I liked the rubber grips they had a good feel about them .

I reckon the Ruger frame is a good platform receiver to start with.  I can't say for sure.  My "custom" 1911A1's have been Colts, Springfields, and Para Ords so far.

Please let us know how the project proceeds.

There is only ONE calibre for a 1911 - .45 ACP! It allows you to shoot "Wild Bunch" in CAS to boot.

Between me and "Miz Josie", there are five 1911s in this household at this time - one "Gold Cup", two SR1911s and two blued R1s.

On the 9mm side, my wife has two CZ SP01 "Shadows" in 9mm, her preferred gun and calibre for IDPA.

I was just going back and looking at the topic title.  It mentioned CC.
I assumed Classic Cowboy since this is basically a CAS, SASS, forum.
It took me a minute to figure you meant Concealed Carry.  ::) ::)

Well Santa ran out of the 9mm 1911's . And yes I was talking about Concealed Carry . This is an Excellent pistol as far as LOOKING at it . I have watched several video's and they all seemed to like it . Hope talking about a Ruger 1911 for CC didn't make anyone Mad ?

My Dear Rowdy-
Heavenly Carbuncles, it's a perfectly reasonable question, whyever would it upset anyone?

I too fidn CAS City a superior place to visit, And we I enjoy having folks like yourself to chat with!
(oops, talking like I was queen viktoria or somat )

And since you started the topic I too have been considering it .... a lightweight commander length 9mm 1911...
a nice light slim single stack that will easily handle high performance +p ... more oompth than a .380,
and lighter even with reloads than a .45.

Gentelmen ...... Using the term VERY LOOSELY.  It is quite true, those that lurk HERE are much more tolerant than those whom lurk .... um .. THERE.  I've found, broaching any subject, even so mundane as the benefit of White Milk will result in gobs of abuse and insult.

Now.  Where were we.  Oh yea .... I remember, sorta .......

I'm not a fan of the 9mm.  Lots of velocity, not so much mass.  I like somewhat larger projectiles when we talk defense.  Sorta like the difference in being hit with a 190Lb offensive lineman vis a 300Lb offensive lineman.  My other consideration is the size of the package.  When we digress to lineman, that 300 pounder is a bit hard to miss.  When we talk about commander size packages in 'Ol Slab Sides, the only difference in size is the bore.  Based on a certain amount of personal experience ...... my vote is for a commander size package but chambered in 45 ACP.  VERY .... VERY .... EFFECTIVE.

It's hard to believe but I agree with the Colorado Mortician.

You boys are in luck . They make both the 9 mm and the 45acp . The commander is a light weight ( Aluminum ) lower . I think the slide is made of stainless steel . I can't believe no one here has one yet ?

OOPS .......

Sorry for an omission.  I've been packing a "commander" size 'Ol Slab Sides for ...... ok ...... ever.  However, mine is ALL STEEL.  None of that Panty Waist .. Karbon Fibber or Al u minimum for me.  Basic stuff.  Ya know.  STEEL!!  8 round magazine.  I carry one spare mag.  When I carried a 1911 more professionally, I carried 4 8 round mags.  Never needed em.  Besides, with all steel, if it really piques the pucker factor, I can always reach out and brain em wid it.
