Handguns of the Confederacy
« on: August 23, 2016, 06:44:41 PM »
A while back I posted a photo of Confederate revolvers that did not include all models - cause I didn't have them all.  Now I do.  Here are the handguns used by the Confederacy that have had reproductions made:

Counter Clockwise from the top:
Griswold and Gunnison sheriffs model ( Uberti)
Tucker & Sherrard (Uberti)
Spiller & Burr (Pietta
Schneider & Glassick(Pietta)
Leech and Rigdon (Uberti)
Rigdon & Ansley Augusta (Uberti)
Navy LeMat (Pietta)
Griswold & Gunnison (Pietta)
J.H. Dance (Pietta)

Center:
Leech & Rigdon Sheriffs model (Pietta)

The Tucker & Sherrard, LeMat, and J.H.Dance are .44 caliber.  All others are .36

The current Uberti offering of the Leech & Rigdon dons a roll engraved cylinder.  Is this accurate?

Nope.... the Naval Scene ( Texas Victory over the Mexican Navy at the  Battle of Campeche) is strictly Colt .

I apologize if I'm High Jacking  the thread   :-\  :(

Hijack away Major.  There's always room for more; and your G&G more than allows it.

Thanks Ken  :)

in the same Henderson Ala. house  the gun was in,  was this photo ...sadly I have no idea who they are , or even if the gun is attributed to them in any way.
( I wrote more about it in a past issue of the Shootist )

However, the second photo ...is a copy of James Norton a great uncle of my Mother's ( I have the original Tin-type )
as seen with G&G in the case.
James owned a G&G just not "sigh" this one ...

I just spoke to Taylors & Company.  With a 50% deposit, they will order a Leech & Rigdon Uberti with a smooth cylinder.  Order has been placed.

Nice collection and neat/cool picture Fingers.

Major: Interesting pictures. I've noticed over the years when viewing pictures pre-1900, the guys crossed their legs when posing in the fashion of your great uncle. I have a picture of my Granddad, Robert Masterson, taken some time in the early 1890's (?) about the time he worked cattle ranches in the west with a couple of other 'cowboys'. He's sitting in the same fashion with a cigar in his mouth. He passed away before I was born, would have liked to hear his stories.

Fingers .........
It has come to my attention "Ahem" you have too many examples of percussion finery.  In fact many too manies.  I full well realize the amount of space required to "warehouse" them ...... ah ...... all.

In light of the above, I would be willing to offer some additional .... ah .... "warehousing" space.  For a nominal gratuity of course.  I do admit this offer would require me to lay in a suitable .... ah ..... additional supply of the appropriate gonnie puder to provide sufficient testing of the examples I would hold.  Such as ...... ah ...... perhaps the Stainless Reproductions??  You may consider this to be a STANDING OFFER!!!  Jest to alleviate your obviously cramped storage facilities ...... as it twer.   ::)

Coffinmaker;  Thank you for the most generous (?) offer.  While my collection is prodigious, it has not expanded to the extent that additional warehouse/storage/display space is necessary at this time.  I will file your most generous (?) offer of assistance where I can readily access it if when the occasion arises that the current warehouse becomes cramped and additional space required.

Charles
though fully functioning, the hand is worn, and unless cocked with authority allowing for some momentum, it won't quite lock up into battery every time.
Also, there is tad of wobble at the wedge, though the cyl - barrel gap is OK.

It has had a metallurgy test , more to analyze the content. But no it will not be shot  :(
It has had several appraisals ... and even a few offers .... One from the NRA , they "offered" me the opportunity to donate it   :)

For now it bookends , my 1860 Army , circa 1862 and lettered to the 5th. Iowa Cavalry
