Older Repro 73's vs newer ones?
« on: July 01, 2015, 04:13:20 PM »
On occasion I have come across older Repro 1873's and was curious if there was any issues such as changes in spare
parts compared to newer made ones. By older I mean 1970's or 1980's . Don't have one now--just trying to educate
myself.

My early 66 and 73 have carrier blocks are shorter than the newer 60, 66 and 73 rifles. You have to make certain the COAL is correct.
I have not compared other parts yet, but i took the trigger safety out of my early 66 carbine and put the correct trigger with out safety. The trigger was a modern new made one out of the importers parts box.

Long John--- I was under the impression that most of the repro's were made by Uberti regardless of importer.  I am trying
To learn what to watch out for. For instance I found out that new Rossi 1892 firing pins have to be fitted to ones made
Several decades ago.

Sorry but there is a typo in my post: should read Armi san Paolo/Euroarms. Armi sam Marco made a Win 92 but never a Win 73 repro.
Regarding repros of the Win 73 from the 1970s and 1980s it is my guess is that some 30 to 50 % were Uberti made only, the rest ASP/Euroarms.

Some of the parts for the newer '73s do not fit into some of the older models. I have two that were made in the late '80s and the lever, mainspring, lifter and lever springs and lifter arm are somewhat different. I think they could be made to fit but they are by no means "drop in" parts. wM1

My 73 is proof dated 1977 and the 66 is 1986, I have one 66 which has no date stamp 60000 serial number.

I missed an opportunity to buy an Armi San Paolo '73 Win. .44 WCF carbine by a minute once. It sold for $500!!  :'(
The story was that these were THE most authentic of the copies ever made.
