Zoot Shooting Cart

Has anyone designed or built one? I'm looking to make a simple and inexpensive one which will hold a Thompson and a pump shotgun with a box for one pistol and accessories. I thought of using a simple hand truck as a base. The cost of pre made carts and even the kits is very high.  I'm looking to keep the cost low and no, I won't use a jogging stroller!! Any help is appreciated.

That looks great! It looks like a wood freight hand truck from the 30s or 40s is the basis for the cart. I know the club in Byers had simple carts which visitors could use for a match. However I can't remember what they looked like.

One thing I have learned with gun carts is that you need large wheels to roll effectively, it makes moveing over the terrian much easier.  I found a three wheel joging cart and bought the cover from rugged gear, it is the easyest cart I have had to move from shooting point to shooting point.

That's a neat little wagon but I think I would like vertical guns and big wheels. That wagon does have possibilities for other uses.

Did you build all of that or find part of it?  If you built it all, how did you find the wheels and how did you get the metal bent right on the support?

No, I just put the parts together. The dolly was being used at the local gas station to carry the oxy settling welder around. I bought a new made one andtraded them straight across. I found an old wooden box, put a lid on it and added brackets to it to hold it to the cart. Then I cut a piece of lumber for the upper bracket.

I think that form of dolly can cart would be a good universal setup.  Same cart, different box.  I'd worry at Camp perry because it is supposed to be soggy during pistol season.  I  haven't been yet though.

The wheels do present a little problem at times. It'd be better if they were bigger as in taller. It doesn't roll over rough stuff real well, but at least I'm not trying to juggle 2 or 3 long guns while I walk.

You're loading room looks like mine - organized chaos! However, compared to my wife's sewing room, I'm "Mr. Neat". I find that to keep things in order, I have to put things away ASAP to avoid clutter and the resulting frustration.

Much to my wife's surprise, I can find what I'm looking for when I need it. Now if I could only keep springs from going "Sproing!", I'd be a happy camper. She did suggest one technique I've adopted ....
When removing the safety from a 1911, I do it within a large plastic freezer bag. No more lost plungers and tiny springs that disappear into ..... ?

My weight set up is right behind my loading bench so that when I get fed up with reloading, I can pump a little iron to relax. Works for me.

Yeah, add in the leather working tools off frame to the right it's more chaos than organized.

There used to be a thread on the 1911 forum of things we had shot while taking down a 1911. One guy mentioned that his dog wouldn't stay in the room when he took apart a 1911.   PERSONALLY, I had to order a recoil spring plug to put the gun back together years ago.  Brownells sells one now that screws on the end of the spring.  LOVE THOSE.

Good idea, but compared to the safety lever spring going "Sproing!", it's not as aggravating. I can generally find something as large as the recoil spring plug, but not that little $%#@!
