Will lube cause problems?
« on: August 20, 2014, 03:08:18 PM »
I will be loading some 38's with the holy black. Will the lube on the bullet contaminate the powder after awhile?
In other words. Should I just load up enough for a shoot at any one time or will they be ok for awhile?
Always knew I was born 100 yrs too late.

I can only say from my experience, I've never had a problem with lube contaminating powder in rifle and pistol rounds, but have had a problem with shotshells, so I never use any lube in them. I've loaded 45/70 with straight Crisco for bullet lube and shot some of them a year later, shot fine.

No, you should not have any problem, just store them nose down like you do any other bullet. I have some at least 3 years old that I've shot, and I've seen BP ammo 50+ years old go bang without fail. Good Luck :)
