I suggest... The Empire of the Summer Moon  by S.C. Gwynne.  It is a powerful story line of the Commanche Nation. It is a history lesson one does not get in schools.  Gwynne is a master story teller. Once you start reading, it is hard to put down.  The Commanche Indians were the first mounted warriors and their skills fighting while riding is most remarkable.  The book is an Epic covering the Rise and Fall of the Commanche Nation... the most powerful Indian tribe in America.

One of the best books I ever read!  Kill babies and then ride in the President limo. And you think we have issues now!

I agree, it is an outstanding book. My copy is outstanding because I haven't received it back from the person I loaned it to. Roll Eyes

The Comanche were remarkable horsemen and applied unique cavalry tactics to subjugate every other tribe. Their fighting prowess is described so well as to be almost palpable.

I will read it again as soon as I get it back. I may even buy another copy just to start reading it right away.

No Summer Moon or Lonesome Dove.  And the gun stuff is messed up some but the story line entertaining.  "West from Yesterday".

My Dad introduced my brother and father-in-law to Empire of the Summer Moon. They all have really bragged on the book. I haven't gotten to read it yet. My in-laws live in the southwestern Texas Panhandle- pretty much right smack dab in Quanah's stomping grounds.

Reckon so.
