Some unknown Italian director was looking for an actor to play in a cheapy western.   James Coburn and Charles Bronson were offered the part and both turned it down.  Movie was "A Fistfull of Dollars"..... we know what little known TV actor was willing to take that part,.....   Wink

I'm thinking of way bigger star than him... IMHO

as to your question..I remember the Film

Wayne's love interest was Roger's sister in the film ,and Roy was Confederate
Gabby was Gabby..title escapes me

Ah ha "Dark Command"


By the way ...The Duke and Gabby did several film together

Jimmy Stewart ..... he was the Murderer in one of the Thin Man sequals

Tyrone Power's father (Tyrone Power Sr.) was the heavy in "The Big Trail"  John Wayne first starring roll

And the Horse Soldiers question

Bing Russell ( the trooper with the leg wound who dies ) is Kirk Russell's dad .....

Not semi famous but in one or two westerns, Boris Karloff.  Not totally unbelieveable as a cowboy IF you had not seen any of his more famous roles.
