Howdy Charri67, you are a lucky one to have found an original Winchester 1876 in France. Sounds like a great old rifle . Hope to see a picture of it one day. Howdy back at you from Texas! ,,,,,,DT

Thank you very much Mr Dusty Texian.  The great problem is that I don't know how add photos.I must learning that soon.
So I have found a wonderfull Winchester 1866, n 166XXX from 1889 in .44 rim fire. This rifle is for me (new)the bore is fantastic.
The price was reasonable(?)5k.What i don't understand is why Winchester still made .44 henry rim fire in 1889 and not 44-40 CF.
This is maybe the reason that this rifle is pratically new.
You see that I'm a Winchester fan.about 1995, I was in Canada(for fishing)and I have found a wonderfull Winchester 73 in 44-40
with half octogonal barrel from 1884.I have also a Win 94 in 30-30 from 1913,french military modell , and 2 commemo (1 Wells Fargo, and 1120 years anniversary from 1986.And many hunting rifles.I'm now an old retired hunter.
Have a good day and mery Christmass for you and all American people that I love.

I guess this is a good way to introduce myself!  Hello from a new 1876 owner.  Weapon appears to be a 45-60 cal with a fully octagonal barrel.  Barrel length is a little confusing to me.  I saw where the Express model had the octagonal barrel but was 26" long.  Hopefully I can post a couple of pictures here and you all can help un-confuse me.

Looking forward to learning about this gun.  Hope I'm in the right place.

Hello,
You can add me in, I have two of them in 45-60, the full length rifle and the Crossfire Musket.
Love them both, but I need to find a boy to rest on his shoulder that 28" barrel when I shoot off hand, as my old back can't hold er steady
anymore.

Love to see that smoke!

Charrie67,
Better late than never.  The model 1866 was discontinued in 1898.  All rifles, carbines and muskets were .44 Henry Rim Fire caliber, throughout production.  The only exception was a lot of  just over a thousand carbines shipped in the early 1890's as .44 Henry Center Fire caliber.  This IS NOT the same as .44-40.
