Jerry,

I will probably need another bunk.  Looks like there may be 3 of us coming up.  Also along with Gringo's questions, when will the Fort open it's barracks.  For instance, If we drive up on Wednesday, when do we stay there...etc.....

Gringo,
I don't have a firm round count yet. I expect to have the shooting procedures for all stages on paper by the end of April, so be sure to keep checking back. I doubt you'd need a gun cart. Remember that GAF shoots are set up for one rifle and one pistol. If your rifle has provisions for a sling I'd recomend attaching one. If you need more weapons than just the 2, that we'll provide them. We won't have any hand gun targets closer than 8 yds and most likely none closer than 12 to 15 and we'll have a few rifle targets at about 125, though most will be in the normal CAS range (15-50).

Major Matt,
I am heariing that due to retirement we will have a new park superintendant in May. And if rumors are true the new super will be the current Asst. Super. If this is indeed the case there should be no problems with setting up an evening or 2 early. Right now I can't answer your question with absolute certainty though I doubt that new management will cause any problems.
BTW I like the new avatar.

Gringo:

I can confirm that there usually aren't any guncarts at GAF Musters - both for the reasons given by Col. Pitspitr and because GAF shoots are heavily influenced by NCOWS rules and practices.  As you may know, NCOWS permits guncarts only if they are "period correct" in design  and appearance ....

I think I was the only person with a cart at Muster 2008 in Iowa .... I transported my half-scale Metis Red River Cart all the way from western Canada ( .... in fact, if not mistaken, I travelled further than any other entrant) ....

Not sure I'd go to all that trouble again .... perhaps you can guess why from the size of the thing (though the wheels do come off for loading it in the back of my vehicle) ....

Good rule of thumb would be 10 rounds handgun and 15 rounds rifle for each stage. That should be plenty.  No carts probably, fill your belt and your haversack.  Sling arms and march!

Col Pitspitr:

I am pleased to report that my previous military duty at Ft. Flat Water has been changed to late in October, from the GAF match weekend timeframe.  HOOOOOOOWAAAAHH!!!!

We will now be able to TDY at the GAF match at Ft. Hartsuff (barring a possible trip to Afghanistan).

Respectfully,
Ltc (bvt) Mustang Gregg

PS.  We are probably down to about 184 days by now.

Just an early announcement for those of you who need to put in for time off by the first of the year. Next year's Grand Muster will be held October 3-5 At Fort Hartsuff Nebraska.

Housing will be available in the restored 1875 enlisted man's barracks but is limited to the first 40 registrants. If there are any ladies who would like to stay at Fart Hartsuff we may be able to put them up in the hospital or the laundress quarters. There is also limited primative camping at the range sight. Be sure to bring your wives even if they don't want to stay at the fort. We plan to have a period "hop" folowing the banquet Saturday evening.

Delmonico is once again slated to provide the meals.

The "Battle Rifle" class is highly encouraged (but not required) as pistol caliber rounds tend to peter out at the range that at least one shot will be attempted.

This will be a unique shoot with stages based on little known and obscure plains Indian War Period fights. At this point I'm not sure about side matches but I expect have at least  a wild buntch stage as a side match.

I plan to be available to give a guided tour of Fort Hartsuff sometime during the weekend and to make time for participants to tour the fort on their own.

More information will be available as the time draws nearer.
