Howdy C&B shooters.

Mid South sent me a catalog.  In it there's a little rig for around twenty bux that is said to make #11 caps out of aluminum cans and roll caps.  I'd like to know if anybody has tried this and if so, how it works for them.

Thanks,

DD-DLoS

   Greetings, DickDastardly!

That sounds a lot like the old Forster's "Tap-O-Cap" Kit. I bought one years ago, and had so-so results. I have subsequently learned that American toy caps are more powerful than the Chinese caps that I tried, and, according to reports, they work alright.
The price is definitely right, so I'd say give it a try; I may have to go out for American caps and begin my experiments again. What's the part # in the Mid South Catalogue?

   Be Well!

Say, can those American made paper caps be shipped to Hawai'i?  If so, anyone got a good source?  Don't have those here.  Only them Chinese ones.  Sad

I've had one of those tap-o-caps for ages, but never tried it, mostly because I can't find the good caps.

Had a really good friend here in Bagdad that taught me lots about Cap and Ball. He had a cap maker . Used it and gave me bunches of those caps. Great for practice. Wish I had one just for that purpose. Saving my store bought caps for the match.

I found the Tap-O-Cap in the new Midsouth catalog on page 60.  Part number 070-TC-1000 for $20.96.  Midsouth phone number is 1-800-272-3000.

Now, I need to know which roll caps are American made?  I've found some labeled "Cowboy" and some others.  I won't buy this device until I can get the correct caps.

Singing Bear, I'll look and see where the caps we carry at work are made, never checked, I do know that often the toy section of grocery stores are a good place to find caps.  The don't come to us as a Haz-Mat so as for shipping I don't know.

I phoned the Tap O Cap manufacturer.  They didn't know where I could get American made roll caps.  I'm going to Gander Mountain tonight and pick up some caps from Parris Manufacturing.  They will be Chinese, but worth a test.

I'll continue to report.  We're all in this together.

Good luck DD!

Like Mason, I've used these b'fore, made with a borrowed tool, and found them to work pretty darned good. However I was using them in muzzle loading competitions wherein a failure to fire wasn't all that critical. I would never have used them in a hunting situation and I wouldn't use them in timed competitions like CAS.

BRW, for what it's worth, those red plastic "ring caps" can be cut from thier ring and will fire a front stuffer with authority too!
