Had my pair of Blackhawks barrels shortened and polished, they were 6.1/2" and are now 4.5/8".They were done by a very well known gunsmith here downunder.

Cy:

I guess to each his own.  I had a pair of K-Super Blackhawks in 10.5" (Bull).  I sawed 'em to 7.5" & "Bisleyed" them.  Some folks thought that was nutty.   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
I really reckonned I oughta had cut 'em off at 5" for B Western.  But I sold 'em instead.  The Pard who bought 'em just hung 'em on the wall in his cabin out in CO.  That is nutty!!

I would never alter my Rugers or any other firearm I own. I know what I like even though I don't know much about art

Nice looking irons pard.  I guess some folks are happy with things that are cut out like animal crackers, some of us have ideas as to what suits them better than "off the rack."  Myself I made new larger grips for my beloved Single-Six in 32 Mag.  They fit a crippled up size 11 hand perfectly and yes I altered the grip fame to make it that way.  A friend told me I ruined the resale value of the gun, but since it will be with me till I die, who cares and I could care less who thinks I did wrong.

Reason that I have had it done is they now fit my new set of holsters (I shoot strong side, weak side),and it was very hard to find a pair of 4 5/8" Blackhawks downunder.
I had a pair of them with longer barrels and I know a very good gunsmith,so now I have a pair of of shorter barreled Rugers that I always have wanted.
