Entry fee is $30 if entries are submitted by Sept 20 or $35 after 9-20, or day of shoot. There will be categories for both Black Powder and Smokeless. Medals for first five places in each category are awarded.  40 shots for score, no sight-in shots.

Any rifle caliber is ok but most targets must be knocked down to count.  NO MODERN OPTICS, spotters with period optics are ok, period scopes are also ok.
Rifles must be of the period of pre-1886 and cross-sticks are allowed. Lead bullets only and the shooter must be in period dress.

From our forum (posted by Pancho Peacemaker): October 15 to 18, 2009,  is the annual “Defending Fort Parker Charity Shoot” near Mexia, Texas (this is about an hour south of Dallas).  This is the original site of Cynthia Ann Parker’s family homestead.   If you are unfamiliar with Cynthia Parker, she is Quanah Parker’s mother.  The original 1836 Parker family fort has been restored and kept up over the years as a State historic site.  A few years ago, the State of Texas made several budget cuts for it’s historic sites, and Fort Parker was one of those cuts.  The Fort no longer receives state funding and is only maintained by private funds.

A SASS club, The Fort Parker Patriots came together along with the cities of Groesbeck and Mexia to form a charitable organization to maintain the Fort and the surrounding grounds and keep it open to the public.  The main source of funds for the fort is the annual “Defending Fort Parker” charity shoot.  All proceeds from the shoot go to the maintenance of the Fort and it’s grounds.  Your match fee is tax deductible as well.

The Chisholm Trail Antique Gun Association (CTAGA) in Wichita, KS, is hosting their fall CAS match on September 19-20, 2009. Besides the regular member-only matches, a number of open or invitational matches and other special events are held at their range in Benton.  Every spring and fall, they have their open CAS matches.

The fall match is comprised of 8 main match stages and side matches for revolver, rifle, shotgun and big bore rifle.

The range is located between Benton and Park City off Highway 254—1 mile north on 143rd then 1/2 mile east . Look for cowboy shoot signs.

The Texas Ten Horns will be hosting the 2009 NCOWS Southwestern Regional Match “Gone to Texas” on November 12, 13, & 14.

This will be the first major NCOWS event in the State of Texas.  We are planning fun side matches and a long distance shoot on Thursday, then a 2 day, 10 stage main match on Friday & Saturday with a chuck wagon banquet on Saturday night.

The main match will be based on gunfights involving famous Texas Rangers.

Organizers expect about 200 competitors from Washington, Alaska, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Canada to participate from Sept. 24-27.

It is a 10 stage match, with lots of fun sidematches, a night stage, and great food and people.

We have smokeless classes as well as black powder. All standard classes are available as Frontier Cartridge, ie. FC Wrangler, FC Cowboy, etc.

Plainsman is also welcome as its own class.

The night stage is shot using lanterns, and torches, and at the gallows. No spotlights are used to illuminate our targets, which make the shooting that much more spectacular.

Cost is $65 for 1st shooter, and $55 for spouse.

RV and dry camping is available on site. Reservations do need to be made by calling the Shooting Park.

This is a great bunch of folks trying very hard to make a new club grow.  I hope you will please consider making the trip to Colfax this Sunday for this match.  It’s going to be a whole bunch of fun!!

Military uniforms are appreciated but not required and it’s a great opportunity to explore the GAF shooting style. If you have guns appropriate for any NCOWS match, you have what you need for the GAF match.

Some Info on Wild Bunch Stages:

4 Wild Bunch Stages will be shot at the Heartland Public Shooting Park after shooting is finished at Flatwater.
Round counts:  40 Pistol (jacketed bullets in handgun are okay at HPSP Range)
40 Rifle (needs to be .40 caliber or larger – cowboy loads ONLY please)
20+ Shotgun
